I have zero issue with him still wanting to be in the league. Good on him. I think it shows a passion and hardly spin it as an equivalent of "looking for scraps".
Is there any chance he's just practicing and it's as simple as that? Is that allowed in the CBA? Or is the only potential end-game here a roster spot?

he is allowed to practice with the team, but the end game is a NHL contract
it is basically a chance for Brodeur and the Blues to see if he fits in and more importantly for the Blues to see what he has in the tank before committing to a NHL contract

Totally. Also, Dominik Hasek played into his 40's and even found some "scraps" in the KHL as late as 2011. No one called it sad then even when his final season in the NHL he posted a similar save % to Brodeur last season.
I'll always be amazed at these older guys who can still play and want to.

how is it sad? He can earn some money and have fun playing hockey. Best case scenario he sucks and the Blues make room for one more playoff team. That wouldn't be sad, that would be awsome.

Best case scenario, IMO, is he plays absolutely lights out, but the team offence dries up and loses a whack of 1 goal games. 1-0, 2-1, etc etc. Brodeur posts a great GAA and SV% but the Blurs still miss the post season.
That, to me, is the best case scenario.

Calgary chased Brodeur at least once in the last year or so IIRC. So if he plays against Calgary I'm fine with that.
I assume they have to at least insure him to practice, or get a helluva waiver of liability.

2 years ago. Sarich and Bouwmeester scored and he was pull around 8:00 mark. Hedberg came in and let in the first shot he faced.

Was that quote from 2004. He had a .901 save % on a very good defensive team with that a lot of shots against last season.

sounds like Brodeur will get a contract
Lou Korac @lkorac10
All indications are Brodeur will sign a contract Tuesday and play either in Nashville or at NY Islanders. #stlblues

I'll bet Lou's kicking himself.
Schneider has been awful this year.

To be fair, the Devils have been hot garbage.

For those into that sort of thing, an article on how he's adapted his equipment (sort of... lol) to the modern game:
http://ingoalmag.com/news/modernizat...-now-st-louis/
Still blows me away he played that long with equipment well below the maximum allowed sizing.

Schneider started 20 games in a row.. you can expect his stats to be lower due to fatigue and playing soo much, he still has pretty good numbers in .915 and 2.59 for a bad team. I wonder where they would be without him

Let's see, he's let in the 2nd most goals in the NHL on a team that's known for it's stifling defense.
He's been awful.
Would look better in an Oilers jersey, IMO.
