Speaking as probably only one of the Americans here, I would rate the top U.S. Presidents as follows:

1- Lincoln
2- FDR
3- Reagan
4- Nixon
5- Bush Senior

my favourite american president will always be richard nixon.

his only crime was not kowtowing to the shadowy power presences in the washington lobbyism quagmire, though many of them got him where he was.

to destry him, suddenly a story broke from the corporate media that was beginning to take shape in the 70s and starting to flex its muscle. what was that late excerpt from the nixon tapes, something like, 'they took me to that owl, it was the ######gediest G.D. thing i ever saw'.

he got america out of vietnam, the damage was done, get the hell out before more soldiers are killed and captured. johnson had long since pooched that one, were it winnable at all.

he used kissinger effectively, playing off israel and the arab countries whilst they were in direct and inconclusive conflict! the united states could have saved their bacon but were able to work the situation to advantage.

compare that to recent administrations where israeli secret service operatives are caught cheering the WTC collapse in jersey and WALKING. the united states has for a long while been severely in israel's pocket. nixon wouldn't have stood for that.

nixon challenged china and prevented them from becoming a huge and troublesome north korea.

yeah, he was dirty. yeah, he was tricky.

he was the best president ever - he stood up to the lobbyists, the last president to ever do so. a true patriot.

Also how about some love for the Scots? TV anyone? Penicillin? Telephones? Sean Connery? Ok the last ones a joke but pleeeeeeease not Diana.
If it's any consolation, Scottish-born Alexander Graham Bell is the only person to appear on three of the lists (UK, Canada, USA).

Possibly because it is "a good conspiracy theory" and was proposed at the time by the some of the press. Although the term 'conspiracy theory' has been relegated to a derogatory word, people still go to jail for conspiracy and so it is still a valid hypothesis.
Well, if that's all it takes to believe a conspiracy theory I guess I have to believe that Bill Clinton had his friend of 40 years Vince Foster murdered and made it look like a suicide in order to avoid being exposed in the Whitewater scandal. [/b][/quote]
Well, it's more plausible then your idea that sheriff Reagan came to town and walked down main street with his spurs and six guns causing the bad Iranis to give up their hostages and flee town. Now if it was John Wayne, maybe.
