Part of the Kevin Lowe leadership plan. Ference has a cup ring, therefore he knows more about leadership than those tier two players.

I didn't mind Ference when he was here. He is a smart guy and good for a non-cliche interview. But his skills haven't improved and he's now a fringe player.

I didn't think too highly of Ference even when he was here to be honest. Decent 5-6 dman but he's never been much more than that throughout his career. Had a couple of good seasons here. But always played tough because guys like Regehr, Warrener, Chara, Boychuk and McQuaig were always in there to take care of the real threats. I always enjoy watching the clip of Crosby's first NHL fight where Ference ate a few from Sid the Kid.
