Lost respect for BB watching 24/7. Thinks dropping f bombs motivates players.
I think I could coach in the NHL. Its 10% skills training and 90% managing egos. No different than what managing partners of large law firms do 90% of their time.

No but he's classy enough to always take the high road in interviews as he never says bad things about anyone he's worked with in the past.

I don't know I think the Ducks are pretty good on paper. Two dynamic stars in Getzlaf and Perry and lots of solid forwards filling out the ranks, enviable depth there for sure. Their defence looks a little weak on paper compared to the contenders I guess but only in that they are lacking a true #1. Still a solid top 6 however. They also have a goalie factory going on there too it would seem. Can't give Boudreau all the credit, Murray and his scouts built a good team IMO. Going into last season there was no question in my mind they would be a playoff team and challenge for the division.

I read it as him saying Iggy wouldn't get into a confrontation.
I agree that is doesn't appear that Iggy would comment on this type of thing, but to be honest, i didn't think Selanne would do that type of this either........so who knows.....
Perhaps we have this discussion when Iggy has retired......I hope not.

I still think Selanne is a good guy and his comments were out of frustration. It's not often you hear coaches come out and talk dirt on ex-players so I'm typically not a fan of players doing it unless the coach is a buffoon like the guy in Edmonton. Even at that it sounds bad when Yakkupov is dumping on Eakins. While I realize that coaches aren't perfect when there's conflict between player and coach the truth usually lies in the middle where the player hasn't been good and the coach may not be handling things as good as he could.

He kind of sells out Getzlaf as well.

unless you give them exactly what they want...top line minutes, pp time, overtime, shoot out, etc, they hate you. What was he supposed to do? You give in to Teemu just means someone else hates you. You try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. A coaches job is to be hated.

Even when they named Getzlaf captain, that came from the organization and not the room (if I recall the stories correctly). Much of the room wanted it to go to Koivu.
I think some of the captain scrutiny that Thornton got will be put onto Getzlaf now.

Not saying he deserved 25 minutes of ice, but if I have a 5 on 3, i'm liking Selanne on the ice with Perry and Getzlaf.

I agree. He was asking for 15 min a night. Come on, how is that selfish? He was holding a coach accountable to a promise made, and when not delivered he asked why and got no answer.
Dude produced too, that's the puzzler.
If he sucked, Teemu would be the first to admit it.
At 43 he was still top six calibre on almost any team in the NHL.
Teemu will always be the big fish that got away from the Flames. I have a soft spot for him, make me biased I guess.

Selanne produced in that short 4 game span when he was put on Getzlaf's line. Selanne was lights out in the Olympics.
Selanne wasn't asking to lead the team, he was asking for a better chance to help the team.
Selanne isn't/wasn't as good as he was even a two or three season's prior, but he was still capable of a positive contribution. If he couldn't see that he wasn't as good as he thought he was, then it should be Boudreau's job to delicately tell him the reasons why Boudreau and Selanne see Teemu's role differently.
Getzlaf didn't even backup Teemu, as far as Teemu could see. Is it the captain's job to help Teemu feel like the role the coach is putting him in is helpful to the team? Is it the captain's job to take players concerns to the coach and at least explain the situation to the concerned player?
Something doesn't add up, and it looks easy to point the finger at Teemu not realizing that he can't do what he thinks he can, but there is also enough evidence to suggest that Teemu could.
I'm inclined to believe that Teemu got the short end of the stick, but without knowing Boudreau's side of the story some shadows of doubt will exist. Even Getzlaf's seemingly lack of interest to help make Teemu's case is curious to me.

What a surprise.
there was a famous quote about Scotty Bowman when the players talked about him coaching the Habs.
Basically they hated his guts 364 days a year and on the 365'th they loved him because they were getting their rings.
Pretty much all head coaches are despised by players in their dressing rooms, it might be universal it might not be, but coaches are trying to get players to do things that they normally wouldn't do. They break players down and build them up like marine corp drill sergeants. I remember reading about one winning Toronto coach, he was very successful, one day in the winter after his car wouldn't start he watched as players drove by laughing at him and waving their jumper cables at him.
reading Teamu's posts actually made me uncomfortable, I expected more out of the guy then random bursts of teenage angsty sounding posts.

Selanne is delusional. He was finished. This idea he could keep being a top 6 player on the Ducks with another coach is pure fantasy.

Eric Duhatschek has insight on it and said Boudreau wanted to save Selanne for the playoffs as he realized in an Olympic year that overplaying the 43 year old would leave him running on empty in the playoffs. When you consider that the Ducks have underachieved in the playoffs relative to their regular season accomplishments I don't have an issue with the coach trying to do what he thinks is best for playoff success as it's not like the Ducks didn't have a great regular season almost winning the Presidents trophy. The fact that Selanne was scratched in the playoffs just goes to show that he probably didn't have the energy left in the tank coaching staff felt they needed from him to be successful.

At 43, Selanne was still a top line forward on 1/2 the teams in the NHL, and minimum top 6 on the other half. If he was on Calgary's roster last year, you could have played him 20+ minutes a night, and improved the product on the ice. People saying he had nothing left in the tank, are delusional.

I'm not going to read into either way. Maybe he is right, maybe not. Hard to say without truly knowing the situation. Changes nothing for me. Guy is still an unreal legend.
