I signed up last week (sorry, promo code went to my brother) and can confirm that (a) Premium is available and (b) Premium is an infinitely better experience.
I can't believe that I'm actually willing to pay $9.99/mth for music, but I am. There's just so much good music and the interface/featureset is solid.

I was also able to sign up for premium. Seems worth it although on the desktop player it doesn't seem like much changes outside of not hearing an ad every 10 songs.

I have heard the latest Nickelback single 4 times now while trying in vain to figure out how to "thumbs down" this terrible song so I never hear it again.
Anyone?
Edit: I got it. You have to be under the Radio button for the thumb ups/downs to be displayed.

For those of you who don't want to deal with beta, you have to get the US version. How (which unlocks more music as well):
1) Load iTunes through a US connection via VPN (I use hide my ass). This will take you to US iTunes and download the Spotify app.
2) When you register the spotify app, use a US address.
3) Now you have to pay for it (if want premium, which you will), so open a paypal account and link it to a US address NOT a Canadian one. Fund this account with a online credit card also with a US address. But you don't have one you say, well that's ok...google "Entropay", it's basically a prepaid VISA you can designate which country the registered address is.
Bam. You now have the US Spotify working flawlessly in Canada.
