Maybe Ottawa will count McDavid or Eichel as part of the return in this trade.

This likely also means they have an idea as to where Statsny will be signing to strike on this deal now.

Ottawa still has 2 solid lines, a solid d core and a pretty awesome goaltender tandem. I still wouldn't be surprised if they snuck into playoffs. Don't forget the cap savings they may be able to add a player or two in free agency.

Personally I'd say Dallas could end up the third best team in the Central behind STL and CHI, but it depends what they do over the next couple of months because there are holes remaining in that roster. Still, they are competitive and should be favoured for another wild card spot, you'd think.

Nill has done an amazing job.

Added two top line centers and didnt give up a first round pick or a true blue chip prospect in either deal.

Interesting trade... Maybe they got themselves a lethal PP line now? Benn - Spezza - Seguin

I dunno, other than when Chiasson was on that 10 game goal scoring rampage he was pretty useless. Anyways Nil is pulling off trades like its nhl 15

This just shows how hard it is to win in the west.
Stars would now be one odds on favourites to win the east, and we are speculating on if this makes them a playoff team in the west

Wow. Benning really pulled the rug from underneath Murray. Bet Murray is kicking himself for not giving in and standing firm on getting that #10 pick.

I personally think Spezza is overrated. I don't think he will adjust well to playing in such a harder conference. The return is still questionable and in Dallas' favour though

1. No they wouldn't, the Bruins are still much better.
2. They were already a playoff team in the West and could have beaten Anaheim in that first round series.

Remember when we all thought landing a top line center was impossible? Turns out the stars have pulled it off two years in a row!!!

What's awesome is the flames are building up the stable of young assets, and can easily enter this arena when they look to take the next step in developing a contender.

Love the stars pushing to be a force in the tough west, rather than waiting on a youth movement still.

Not a great return, but Spezza is an often injured pending UFA in one year. If Dallas can re-sign Spezza then it's a good deal for them.

Wow. What a pile of crap return for a 30 year old #1 center. If I was a Sens fan I'd rather have Backlund, Hudler, Wideman and a 2nd from Calgary haha.

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: So in a league where it's seemingly impossible to acquire top-end centers, Jim Nill picks up Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza within 12 months
