McGrattan stares into the camera, and I'm thinking "OK, McGrattan can call him whatever he wants!"

ok guys, as a Dutch Flames fan for almost 20 years, and a frequent reader of these forums for 10 years, I think now is the time for me to post

Though it's kind of fun to see you all struggle with all those Dutch names over the years, I can tell you that Backlunds pronunciation was close to perfect (if you were to pronounce it in proper Dutch)

I would even say it was better than Bryce his own pronunciation.

-Cheers!

Velkommen to CP!

Yeah, I think I saw a great nickname for BVB somewhere - can't remember if it was HF or CP who coined it - "The Flying Dutchman".

It's a typical, but not very common Dutch name.
We use 'Van' (which can be translated as 'from') and 'De' (which can be translated as 'the') often for last names.
Usually the last name refers to an proffession or occupation many genarations ago. De Boer for example means 'The Farmer'
It also can refer to a part of the country where to last name originated. (in this case you can say 'It's Bryce, From Brabant)
Brabant is refering to a province in the south of The Netherlands.
If Bryce wants to find out where he's originally from, I'm pretty sure the family line starts somewhere in Brabant, The Netherlands.
Probably centuries ago.

Well, that's Ducth sociology class for today.

Thats to make it easier after everyone goes to the "Coffee Shops" right? right?
Id be worried if he was a farmer FROM Brabant. then what? De Van Brabant? Van De Brabant?
What if he wasnt a farmer...say he worked in the Red Light District? Van F'N Brabant?
F that...back to the coffee shop.

Ha. I was going to post the same thing. I'm a Canadian with a Dutch passport. I even have a sofinummer. I told my wife that Backlund had a great Dutch accent.

And Bouma is actually B-owww-ma. It's Friesan.

Oh and Fryslan Boppe!

Oh yes. I am Dutch (Friesan actually) and speak all of about 2 words in Friesan that are swear words. My last name gets butchered so bad sometimes.

I sometimes get annoyed at the pronunciation of Bouma's last name as well. Curse of being Dutch sometimes, last names are not usually pronounced right.
