Is it a coincidence that the two powerhouse teams of the 80's are the laughing stock of the NHL 30 years later?

I hate to be the one to bring it up, and I really like our team, but Calgary may have been the third best team of the eighties ... and we aren't really killing it these days.

The good news is the Cansucks would be deemed more of a laughing stock than us. Gong show.

Charles Wang was a kooky and cheap owner but he put a ton of money overall into the Islanders team and tried everything to keep them in Nassau. He tried all sorts of development ideas to build a new arena, including no government financing, but couldn't get any support from the county. He knew nothing about running an NHL team but don't confuse that with how much he tried.

Whether they are worth $450M or $780M, Jay-Z is an idiot either way (if he in fact paid $1M for 1/15th of 1% of the Nets)

($1m = 1/15 of 1% of $1.5B)
