A lot of these names are not 'reclamation projects'. They are simply guys who are behind in the depth charts, but who may shine in another organization if given the chance to prove themselves.
Colborne (imo) was not a 'reclamation project'. He was a kid who just needed a team to give him that chance. I look at reclamation projects as guys who have been given that chance on a team and haven't done much with it, and look like their careers are on the fast-track out of the NHL.

I'd be trying to grab one or both of Connolly or Smith-Pelly. Big RW with skill? Yes, we could definitely use some of that. Especially if all they need is a chance in the bigs. That might free up the assets to go after a young defenseman ready to step in too. Come on Burke! Connolly or Smith-Pelly for the extra 3rd rounder we have this draft!

Kind of funny that the Leafs could have just put Colborn on the wing got better production and saved all that money they paid for Clarkson to whom there's already rumours (Fan 960 this morning) that the Leafs may consider buying him out.

Wow that would be ugly. After finally getting Tucker and Armstrong off the books, they'd be adding this in dead space:
- 2014-15: $2,291,667
- 2015-16: $1,541,667
- 2016-17: $41,667
- 2017-18: $41,667
- 2018-19: $2,291,667
- 2019-20: $3,791,667
- 2020-21: $1,791,667
- 2021-22: $1,791,667
- 2022-23: $1,791,667
- 2023-24: $1,791,667
- 2024-25: $1,791,667
- 2025-26: $1,791,667
Goes to show the importance of developing and promoting from within rather than try to spend your way out of mediocrity.

They used their compliance buyouts on Komisaerk and Grabovski.
Anyways compliance buyouts cannot be used on contracts signed before Sept 15, 2012 which Clarkson was not

Which is why I don't think it is going to happen. Maybe after another year of this level of production, but I can't see Nonis admitting his mistake yet.

Not via trade, but via UFA Mueller or Skille might be worth looking into as a reclamation project.

Both have had several chances - they are what they are. Betting on these guys taking a huge step forward would not be smart

That's the thing though. What they are isn't all that bad and room for a little upside.
Mueller is a consistent .5 PPG player. He's been out of the NHL for a year, playing overseas, trying to put his concussion history behind him
Jack Skille I'd be more inclined to agree with you though, but I think he could slot in on the 3rd line with his size quite nicely.
We are ridiculously weak on the right side.

More like Iginla 0.1... nowhere near the offense or fighting skills of Iginla. More like Lance Bouma minus the shot blocking with a bit more offensive upside.

Its actually worse than this because of how the deal was structured (add about $600,000 per year:

Connelly, Morin, Elliot look like good targets to me if the price is right (AKA cheap like Colborne was).

Connolly and Glennie from that list and Peter Mueller from outside of that list. I feel Mueller would be an excellent fit on Monahans right side.

Dent had sensed Morin was disappointed when his former IceHogs teammate Brandon Pirri and other AHL players were getting traded and being given NHL opportunities and Morin wasn’t.
“I know he had mixed emotions after the trade deadline,” Dent said. “There was some movement to different organizations. He was still with us in Rockford. I had a talk with him. I know he was a little down after the fact he wasn’t getting a chance in the NHL. He stuck with it. I told him things would work out. I’m glad he got the call. Now he can show his stuff.”
Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said Morin deserved a shot to be in the NHL.
“Jeremy Morin's had a great season for us and he was here a little bit earlier in the season and he played maybe a handful of games, but since he's gone back to Rockford he's been one of the best players in the American League, scoring goals almost every game and he certainly deserves a chance to play in the NHL,” Bowman said. “He provides some offense, some energy and Jeremy's worked hard, so I've got to give him credit for sticking with it. It's hard for young kids when they go up and down a bit, but he went down and played great for us. So, we're very excited for that."
|
Morin has had a great season in the AHL; PPG & loads of energy. I really like his game. Lots of sand-paper, a good amount of skill. I feel, at worst, he would be great on an energy line with Bouma. He has the ceiling to be a top-6 forward in the NHL, which he'll never achieve on the stacked Blackhawks. I also think he'll be the odd one out should the Hawks get into cap trouble again...

Connolly would be a great pickup. Could develop into a really solid 2nd/3rd liner. More size, depth, and youth!
