Why is that childish? What's so advantageous of using US workers for Alberta and Canada over Chinese labour? If anything, it's probably more beneficial to use Chinese labour in improve relations with China and get away from dependence on the US.

What was childish in the post I replied to, is that the use of Chinese resources was revenge for the US blocking the Keystone pipeline.

Why do we want to improve relations with China? We have what they want, they should be trying to improve relations with us. I trust the the US government far more than the Chinese for what it's worth and I don't look at it as dependence on the USA, I look at the USA depending on us to employ it's citizens.

We have a free trade agreement with the Americans and it's mutually beneficial to have employment opportunities open in each country. If at some future time, the construction industry has a downturn in Canada and things are good in the States, it would be good for us to be able to fill positions down south. I don't see the same opportunity for construction employment in China.

Yeah the pipeline companies don't care but with the oil producers not being able to ship their product, that makes the refinery more viable as it doesn't have the competition from the gulf refineries.

A few years ago VW was your only choice for a diesel sedan in North America but now Ford, GM, Mazda, etc are all offering diesel engines in many of their new sedans.

Just saw this and I thought it was pretty funny.

That is not at all what this project is about. Other oil producers have roughly a 0.00000% chance of having their product shipped here. Sure, no keystone makes the refining side more lucrative from depressed pricing, but it exists to process the government's and CNR's bitumen feedstock only.
This has been in works much longer than keystone's troubles have been, decisions are totally independent of each other.
