Gah!

That's just mean (the pic, not the ruling, which is awesome).

Given its exceptional nature, the CRTC has set the bar very high for obtaining a mandatory distribution order. The CRTC’s policy requires that a service seeking such an order must clearly demonstrate its exceptional nature and that it achieves important public policy objectives under the Broadcasting Act.

The applications from the following services were denied, not having successfully demonstrated to the CRTC that they met the criteria for a mandatory distribution order:
  • Accents
  • All Points Bulletin
  • Canadian Punjabi Network
  • Described Video Guide
  • Dolobox TV
  • EqualiTV
  • Fusion
  • Maximum Television Canada
  • Starlight: The Canadian Movie Channel
  • Sun News Network
  • La télévision des ressources naturelles
  • Vision TV
Hopefully the station now dies. That's probably the only way to get my father in law and brother in law to stop getting their perspectives on the new molded by it.

So because you don't like its viewpoints and opinions it should die?

I'm not onside with a lot of Bthe opinions on shows, but it does fall under the concept of a news network and Newsnet and the CBC news channel didn't have a problem getting the general distribution order.

I think that there's space on the general distribution for all sides of the spectrum.

It will be interesting to see the Sun's response to this decision?

I wonder if they can drive it through the courts.

To be honest it doesn't matter to me, I rarely watch SunTV or CBC news and prefer to get my news from BBC for interntation, and CTV for 30 minute spurts.

As long as they don't touch Marcia McMillian I won't go into ape$$$ mode.

People watch the news on TV? I get all my news from the one unbiased source left in this world of ideologically-driven content: CP.

Probably didn't meet the "Doesn't look like it was filmed for $20 in someones basement with equipment from a defunct 1980s small-town news station" criteria.

Its interesting that the commission basically said that it didn't believe that SNN was being treated unfairly in its denial and they'll think about it.

The smart move here would be continue to take the losses and go after the decision public ally.

Then every news network should die on its biases.

I just find it amusing that they are pursuing this as a "news" channel and that angle. A line-up of continuous op-ed shows is not news. Its propaganda pure and simple, and if the proprietors can't get enough people who want to buy it, then it should shut-down, plain and simple. I would feel the same way about this if it were an NDP mouthpiece.

Lol at comparisons of the CBC and SunTv. CBC is high quality journalism, yes with a somewhat liberal outlook, but no more than the majority of Canadians. SunTV is frothing at the mouth red meat conservatism. Let's not try to play the fair and balanced card here.

If you don't think that CBC is frothing at their mouth in their views then your bathing in your own bias.

CBC has also been busted and sued multiple times for their journalism and their occassional lack of integrity.

Personally I don't think there should be any such thing as general distribution in this day and age and I hope it dies soon. We as viewers should be allowed to pick and choose our cable packages based on individual channels. That way for example if I don't watch CBC ever I shouldn't have to pay into it.

Fixed.

Screw the current channel system.

Can you provide any examples? I am not trying to be difficult here, but I can't think of any?

LOL did you ever think that the majority of Canadians may have their somewhat liberal outlook because the majority of Canadians get their news from the somewhat liberal CBC?

Weird that Albertans are impervious to this brainwashing though, I guess? And then sometimes it works in places like Ontario and then sometimes it doesn't?

I'd have to go back and look tonight. There was a lawsuit where CBC went after a fashion designer and fabricated a story about him and destroyed the guys life with false allegations. They turned out to be wrong and it ended up in court.

There was the Pierre Sormany scandal that lead to his early retirement when he posted false statements in an organizaed crime investigation.

Those are two off the top of my head.
