Toronto FC continued to sign up players with these 4 today:

Robert Earnshaw - Welsh international striker
Ashton Bennett - first round pick from the supplemental draft
Taylor Morgan - 4th round pick
Jonathan Osorio - Canadian U-20 player

I like the Caps' and TFC's new jerseys.

I don't have any issue at all with the Whitecaps not playing any Canadians, it's totally their prerogative and in many ways the smarter path to corporate success (and arguably long term soccer success in Canada - but just arguably). Personally I will never pull for them, not living in Vancouver, unless they show a commitment to giving Canadians key minutes though, supporting a sports team is always a little irrational and emotional.

I don't cheer against them or anything but emotionally I have the same connection to any random team in europe with 3 or 4 Canadians on contract like QPR or Slask Wroclaw or something. As shermanator mentioned DC United's first team is more Canadian than the Caps these days. It really surprised me with how early and heavily they committed to their academy how few opportunities they've given their young players. I'd like to see Alderson, Teibert and Simon Thomas move on to another setup to be honest, I have serious doubt they will ever give any of them a consistent chance to start and I think they are all going to be important players in the next 2 cycles.

Montreal was given quite a bit of leeway physically, Seattle had a right to be upset. Not that I care...

I went to the Whitecaps - TFC opener today. Always a fun time. You could tell it was early season and form though.

Just wanted to say that Kenny Miller is one of the worst professional soccer players I have ever seen live. (And I'm a Scotland fan). Is Camilo injured? Absolutely no reason Miller should be playing ahead of him.

You could tell Reo-Coker was a real pro. Just slowed the game down every time he touched the ball.

Russell Teibert needs to get the hell away from Vancouver, and quick. Not even on the bench yesterday? It can't be because he's only 20, they had an 18 year old starting....

If ever there was a night that a draw felt deserved, it was tonight. Timbers down 3-1 at half fight their way back to a 3-3 result. They owned the second half. Great night form the Argentinian, Diego Valeri. Mikael Silvestre was the goat in the first half, good in the second.

Onward, Rose City!

Timbers Army make watching those games fun! So much crowd noise. I kept flipping back from the Flames game because of it! I wish the saddledome would sound like that on TV

Ryan Nelsen strikes again, this time getting a player out of Tottenham, John Bonstock.

Quote:
Bostock, 21, most recently spent time on loan with Swindon Town FC of England's League One. He began his youth career at Crystal Palace FC and signed with the first team for the 2007-'08 season.

Tottenham purchased Bostock ahead of the 2008-09 campaign and he became the youngest player in club history to play for the Spurs. He played a UEFA Cup match against Dynamo Zagreb at the age of 16 years 295 days.

Bostock has represented England at the under-16, U17, and U19 levels. He also served as captain for England's U17 side.

I just noticed while looking at the TV guide for the 'Caps game that a good number of their games are only available on sportsnet pacific, including tomorrow evening's game. That really sucks, I was looking forward to watching it.

You can add Pacific and Ontario I believe for about $3 if you're on Shaw. It is in SD, and the picture is cropped into 4:3 which kind of blows. But better than nothing. That's what I did last year.

Alternatively, if you are already a subscribe to Sportsnet World Online, any Sportsnet-owned matches are available live and on-demand on there. So the Pacific-only games would be on there too.

If all else fails, Team 1410 has the live audio commentary.

The 'Caps have looked very good so far in this young season. The added creativity of Kobayashi is huge, and Reo-Coker provides some experience and calmness in the middle. Plus I love their new jerseys.

All 3 Canadian MLS teams win yesterday, and so far have the 3 teams have a maximum 15 points out of 6 games (considering two of them played each other). Good start to the year.

Timbers pull out a draw in Seattle with a last minute goal from Rodney Wallace. It was good to see Portland continue to fight after the early Eddie Johnson goal. After witnessing the meltdown that was Seattle away last year, a little resilience is a big improvement! I'd say it was a fair result as both played well for portions of the match, but neither were clearly dominant.

Seattle sits in the basement of the Western Conference. Feels good, man...

Timbers look much better this year and full marks for the draw. Besides a a couple of flashes from Zakuani and Johnson, Seattle looked disjointed, slow and apparently thinking the game is only 89 minutes long.

The draw dampened an otherwise exciting week for the Sounders. They became only the second MLS team in history to beat a Mexican squad in CCL action on Tuesday. They move into the semi finals against Santos Laguna on April 2.

FO finally replaced Fredy Montero's DP slot with one of the leading scorers from La Liga in Obafemi Martins.

I'd be surprised if the Sounders are at the bottom of the table come September so enjoy it while it lasts and hopefully your Timbers do more this year to keep you happy.

Who are they trying to fool claiming that Martins is 28?

If that is what the Nigerian Football Association and Martins himself claim then I'm not sure what the Sounders or any soccer club can do about it?

The only number of concern is the 11 goals scored for Levante this year.

TFC was outplayed by LA on Saturday but almost snuck one out. Despite allowing a disappointing late goal, a draw is a good result. At least they managed to score a couple goals at home. Great to see Jonathan Osorio, the home town kid, get his first goal. Hopefully a future contributor to our Men's national team.

Canadian MNT member Will Johnson just won Player of the Week honours after getting two goals in the second half against Colorado. Johnson is my pick to be the next captain of the national team.
