Well I went for an interview at Ranstand today and on the drive home they phoned me and told me they have a position available at a Firm downtown. It's related to my degree and they said that they are looking to make this position permanent if it's a good fit. Paid more then my last job and I start Monday!

Awesome to hear man. Is Ranstand a temp agency?
I got laid off almost exactly a year ago today. 12 months later, I have a better job (same role but not as much BS as before), higher salary, better working conditions, slightly better commute, and larger bonus with my current job. Not to mention my fat severance pay.
Take this as one of those life learning experiences. I was laid off at my first job. However, I learned a lot from that experience and worked at making myself a asset to the company. Looking back now, I can see how far I've come and all the successes I've achieved along the way. You will too.
Congrats on the new job!
I believe some companies hire a company to do a full due diligence by looking at everything. From credit, criminal background, driving record etc. I am not sure if they can look into your exact dates that are stated on your Record of Employment(ROE).
Temp/Work/Placement agencies were good for me because they allowed me to flesh out my resume with job experience and get many different companies (especially bigger name companies) listed on there which helped my resume stick out when I originally got into the workforce as a younger person.
As an older person, they can help tide you over and help you keep from having large gaps in your work history that will turn companies off you.
