The part that is tough about that is that we have a lot of dog experience, our baby is great with dogs and we would have the means to keep the dog and baby seperate until it was appropriate. But because they are so over capacity and busy, they don't have the means to specify that maybe some of the dogs could go to a family with small kids if the family was experienced with dogs.
I'm not blaming anyone - I'm just saying there are some sometimes things like this that can deter people and wondering out loud if there's a way around that. Might have to call them directly to see if they have the right fit for us that maybe isn't on the website.

you have to go there and look at the little guys....with an intake as high as it is now, there is no way that these dogs are assessed properly. Go find a dog you like, play with him a bit in his cage....and then take him for a walk, a long walk if you can. This dog is nervous, scared, probably hungry and not the most trusting animal....take him outside so you can at least get a glimpse of his personality.
I took a dog from the Edmonton SPCA about 10 years ago, when I first saw her, she was so scared and shy she put her head in the corner when ever I tried to talk to her...when I walked away, I looked back and she was staring at me...There was a big sign on her cage saying that she was not good with other pets or children - pretty much a death sentence for any housed dog.
Anyways, I ended up adopting her, and it turns out she adores kids and is the most patient dog I have ever met
When I signed the paperwork, the worker told me that the dog was lucky as she was scheduled to be put down in 2 days time.....
