Whilst it's generally true that in the long run, most people will have jobs (because the labour market self-corrects), you can't just shift your economy from something where you have a big competitive advantage (it's hard for places that don't have oil to extract it) to something where we don't have a big competitive advantage and expect the same quality of jobs.

But in the long run, the amount of jobs lost will be evened out by the amount of jobs gained, whether its directly or indirectly. That was my point.
