I've gotten a photo radar once at a playground zone.. went 41 instead of 30 and only cost me like $50. Ever since than, I slow down everytime there's a playground zone sign. And I usually go 10 or under the speed limit anywhere.

Just be thankful those photo radars don't count against your merits.. getting caught by the police on the other hand is a different story.

There's plenty of threads where people have made mistakes or done something wrong. You may see a thread where someone's left something out of the freezer by accident and wants to know if it's still okay. That doesn't mean we need another thread that says. "Hey I left something out of the freezer, but instead of asking for advice, I'm here to take my lumps like a man".

The idea behind your thread is pretty childish.

Bump instead of starting a new thread:

So I received a photo radar ticket in the mail, and it was a morning that I lent my truck to a girl I'm seeing.

If I pay it (plead guilty) does it go on my record, especially since it wasn't me driving? I know the last time I insured a vehicle they asked me if I had any photo radar tickets. I was under the impression photo radar didn't count against insurance. Wondering if I should just pay it? Or if I should go down and note that it wasn't me driving?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC, a photo radar ticket does not go on your record because they can't positively prove who is driving. It is only a fine to the registered owner of the vehicle.

My gear:
Bel STi Driver Radar Detector
Blinder M20X Laser Diffuser

My squeaky clean driving record is a testament to their efficacy, but the one that saves me most of the time? My own awareness and intuition.

Cars ahead braking for no apparent reason? Could be because they're all old people, or... because there's a speed trap up ahead and people automatically brake when they see them, even when they aren't speeding.

I speed. I'll readily admit I speed. I just don't get caught. And if I do get caught, you can be damned sure that I won't create such a holier-than-thou thread about paying it. Stupid thread made for stupid reasons.

Friend of mine got a parking ticket at the airport because she skipped paying. However the 'ticketer' who left the ticket on her windshield not only listed the wrong color of van, but didnt even get her plate # correct! So 'morally' as she put it, she should pay. However if she doesnt, is there a way they could track her down? Seeing as how the licence plate he wrote down was wrong?

Plus with the wrong plate there is no way to track her down.

How exactly would a radar detector keep you from getting a photo radar ticket, by the time it went off, you would already have your picture taken would you not?

With that being said tho...I find if you just pay attention then you shouldn't get one, if you are driving along and see a shiny mini-van or truck parked just off the road, slow down...or if your really paranoid, check out the city of calgary police website and they will tell you where the photo radar is going to be setup for the coming month.

In Edmonton they have to worry about photo radar boxes as well. I'm sure they're not too far off from bringing them to Calgary.

No they don't. Only Strathcona County which are in the process of removing the boxes from use.

Photo radar runs on Ka band (I think) and I always get plenty of warning when coming up on one of those vans. The only thing that my detector doesn't pick up are the green light cameras which is why I'm thinking about investing in a new one as my Valentine V1 is probably 5 years old, but has paid for itself probably ten times over.

Don't get me wrong, I believe I've only ever gotten 3 speeding tickets ever. (Non multinova) I'm not a dangerous driver and I do believe in admitting when you've done something wrong. But the advice makes sense to me.

I am glad you took the time to come in here and tell us what detestable human beings we are though.
Except for insurance. A ticket is a ticket..... Demerits really only effect the possibility of getting your license suspended

Update: Not Guilty.

Well really, the officer didn't show up and they had to withdraw the charge.
IMO, it was worth pleading not guilty for the experience and to have a better understanding in case there's a next time.
