The passport office will do a renewal in a day or two if that's what you need, you just need to tell them when you need it by and pay the extra fees for a rushed renewal.

It won't be cheap but I wouldn't risk my plane tickets etc. on the hope that they will let you board with a nearly expired passport.

You can have your current passport couriered to you, from Ottawa, in 24 hours. Then you can take that passport down to Passport Canada (downtown office or South McLeood office) and apply for a renewal. Your renewal will be ready for pick up in 48 hours (apply Monday, pick up on Wednesday) at the downtown (Harry Hays Bldg) Passport Canada office. Rush passports can only be picked up at the downtown office.

This is a fact. My wife works at Passport Canada.
