X-Men 3 was actually pretty decent, it wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. Obviously no where near as great as X2.

It isn't anywhere year worst superhero movie though. Wolverine, Spiderman 3, Batman 3 and 4, Superman 3 and 4, Daredevil, Elektra!

I thought Loki was a better villain than Jeff Bridges in Iron Man. But over all the movie wasn't as good.

actually to be fair, screwing up Venon had a higher degree of difficulty than anything

Spiderman 3 was worse than X Men 3, X Men 2 was great though, so maybe X3 just looks bad by comparison to 2

I really liked Thor. I didn't really know what to expect, but I found it to be an enjoyable movie, and I liked the progression of the Avenger's storyline as well.

Had no love for the comics, but loved the movie. Good action, great visuals, 3d added a bit, but was never a distraction. I really thought the sound was great in this one. Very pleased and surprised the wife quite enjoyed it, although I think Hemsworth's bulk may have been the reason. lol.

Seriously though I was quite happy for a movie I had no intrest in seeing. Other than the typical slow spots which are part of all origin stories, it was, dare I say, awesome!

7.5/10.

I nearly puked with boredom over Iron Man! I wanted my money back. I most certainly did not watch it's sequel.

Thor, on the other hand, was awesome. Apparently the secret to me liking a superhero movie, is to briefly flash 's pecs.

A-

We saw it tonight, not in 3D. A dozen people in the theater at most, just the way I like it.

Of all the Marvel movies, Thor sits at a close second behind X2 as my favourite. There were very few moments where the movie slowed down, but not to the point where it yanked me back to reality. It was actually paced quite well overall, bouncing between Asgard, Earth and Jotunheim. Plenty of action, with mild comedic scenes throughout.

Hemsworth was excellent. Initially, I was kind of disappointed when he was cast as Thor, though I couldn't think of anyone better suited for the role at the time. He was huge, ripped, commanded presence, and his sound was pretty good--something I have imagined and have been hearing in my head for over two decades.

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki was a very cool, calm, conniving, fellow. He was jealous and thirsty for love, power, and acceptance by his father; and there was a desperation about him: definitely one of the most complex villains to appear in a marvel flick. Bravo.

The supporting cast was a good mix. Jane Foster (Portman) and Erik Selvig (Skarsgard) were both pretty solid, but I couldn't figure out what Darcy's (Dennings) purpose was. T&A? (Unnecessary) comedy relief? She brought nothing to the movie, really. Agent Coulson (Gregg) was there again with his usual deadpan.

Selvig’s relationship with Jane had me a bit confused. He said he taught with her father, and then it seemed as though he was going to add more to the story, but didn’t. I thought it was going to turn out that he was her father?

Spoiler!

I want a Thor sequel, damnit!

Just got back from a 3-D viewing. Pretty disappointed with it.

Some decent fight scenes, and Asgard was a visual feast. But the plot was virtually non-existent and Thor's character development was so weak. I mean, he's going to be pining for Jane from far-away realms when he didn't even taste it up in New Mexico? Please... he would need at least a threesome on Earth with Jane and Darcy before he even considers ignoring that fine Asgardian tail.

No plot? A prince is banished to earth (after a reckless raid across space to the realm of frost giants), where he learns humility, finds love, and saves a town and his father from the devious manipulations of his adoptive evil brother. Mythic archetypes galore. What kind of plot do you expect from a comic book movie?

http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2011...over_thor.html [Roger Ebert]

After my "Thor" review hit the fan, I was pummeled by outraged comments. A large number cited factual inaccuracies and speculated that I had not seen the movie at all. Some stated that as a fact. One called for me to be fired. Of course I saw the movie. I haven't spent 44 years at this to start making things up now. I might indeed question how many other movies some of my correspondents have seen, since they confused "Thor" with a good film.

There is a larger question here. Does it make a movie "good" because you "like" it? No, it doesn't, and I have liked a lot of bad movies. It is helpful to separate one's immediate amusement from more lasting standards. "Thor" is a minor superhero movie with a boring back story and an underwhelming weapon (his hammer).

What did I learn from this adventure, if anything? I hope I learned to flail less. I don't consider my reviews instructions to readers about whether they should see a film. They're more like a continuing conversation. Nobody enjoys it when people get too wound up and start shouting. I hope to have a good time at a movie, and to provide a good time in writing a review. My guide is Dr. Johnson: "Those who desire to partake of the pleasure of wit must contribute to its production, since the mind stagnates without external ventilation."

Movie was O.K. Not great but not terrible.

I'm pretty much sick of 3D (only choice we had last night). No one can seem to execute it properly and any action scenes tend to be overly blurry because of it.
