My wife, a cat lover, used to make excuses to visit that CT location so she could visit and pet the cats. She knew their names and everything (koo, koo, katchoo, I know). I went there with her once and she started petting the cat for a bit when it quickly climbed onto her back up near her shoulders and wouldn't get off. I was off by myself shopping and came back to find my wife a little freaked out walking up and down the aisles slowly, all hunched over with hair all messed up and a cat on her back asking strangers to take the cat please! lol! People were ignoring her and walking on by!! I laughed so hard, I couldn't help it!! I took the cat off, it just jumped when I tried. Lilly I think was it's name.

It was shortly after this that they had the complaint from someone and they keep the cats locked up during the day now. (was not my wife who complained though btw) My wife was not deterred in the least from visiting after the incident but never wants to go there now that the cats are no longer "free range".

I think the real pests are the people that took the time to complain about a cat in a store.

Why? Some people don't like cats and cats aren't normally found in retail establishments. They have every right to complain.

or they could shop elsewhere where they poison the mice.

Another green alternative could be to release several boa constrictors. It would control both the mice and the cat problem at the same time.

*I am Chinese therefore I claim the privilege [as demonstrated in "The Yada Yada" the 153rd episode of the American NBC sitcom Seinfeld] of becoming Chinese just for the jokes.
Just make sure to use animals whose back faces the sky.

it's no different than a shop cat. They are great and I have no quarrels with the use of them. I wish more stores/shops would go this route as well.

Ya that's great, but can someone please send me a large enough predator to hunt down these 2 cats that are living in my house!?

Because the same people complaining about these cats are the same people who will complain about days being too hot in summer, and pretty well anything else they can find.

I can't imagine wasting my valuable time enough to make a formal complaint about cats being in someone's store. If you don't like cats, don't go there. These are the same people who complain about sex and profanity on TV - STFU and avoid what you dislike without forcing your preferences on everyone else.

Besides - cats are much cleaner than your average Canadian Tire staffer.

I used to work at a place that had a major mouse problem. Everything was tried; poison, traps, some sort of foam/sticky/messy contraption. Nothing was working.

Then one day our secretary was sitting there and a mouse came and sat on her foot. She, of course, screamed and ran about.

Next day our manager went to a farmer he knew and brought back a kitten. All bills were paid by the employer, vet, food, litter, etc. The cat was not declawed or had its claws clipped.

Overnight our mouse problem disappeared. From finding mouse droppings everywhere, cables/cords chewed through, to none of that at all. Other departments were jealous, as their problem continued, but ours was gone, plus "a CAT!"

Then someone complained that having a cat roam about all the time wasn't "safe" for the cat due to the number of people about. He was left alone all weekend. And other whiny things, like he was allowed to jump up on computers and monitors and sleep there.

So we were ordered to get rid of the cat and did.

Mouse problem came back overnight.

I think what you need to do is have someone declare the cat as necessary pet therapy animal to deal with a phobia of mice.
