Accident, or design, I wonder?
I'm 111 wpm with 3 errors. I might try the test with some other keyboards when I get a chance. Would be interesting to see iPad (for one) as well as how MBP chiclets stack up to the real thing.
Home Row from elementary school. Strangely, this was a major component of 'computer class' in small town Manitoba and it wasn't in Okotoks.

Has to be accident I think - Twitter's 140 character limit is something it inherited from texting, isn't it?

I can't say that I've ever really thought about it. I suppose I'm basically the home row kind of thing but I rarely use the pinky except for shift, sometimes enter.. I think in general I rest on the home row, but I don't use that style of typing.

I do the home row thing because it's got the grooves on "f" and "j" and so I can do it comfortably without ever needing to look at the keyboard.
For the people who do the two finger tapping, do you guys look at the keyboard? I've seen some people who do it pretty quick and I must say, it's actually pretty impressive.

With my thumbs...

It's true though, I do about 80% of my typing on my BB now. Otherwise I have assistants to do dictation...

I do 3 fingers on my left hand and 2 on the right hand, plus both thumbs that do most of my typing. If I had to describe it, I would say it was an advanced 2 finger hybrid method, modified for more fingers.
I have never had a problem with it before but now that I am working on a computer full time, I have regretted spending the last 15 years on a computer not doing it properly. The little bit I have began to try to type using "home row" and it is painful to the point where the silly little exercises like fjfjk kfjjk jjjfff fjjkfj fklkkjk are almost impossible for me to do without staring at the keyboard.
Right now, I can type without looking about 80% of the time, but my accuracy sucks, and I top out at about 50WPM if I am typing from my head but if I need to copy something, I am probably lucky to get much more than 30WPM.
Anyone have any tips on how I can break the habits?

Same here, I always have to look down to see what the numbers are, I am always off by 1 or 2, then I type this and I don't have to look for 1 or the 2, haha.
As for my typing I only uses my two index fingers, I am super fast doing it although my mistakes have increased greatly from what my accuracy was about 6 years ago.
It sounds funny now, but Habbo Hotel is what made my typing so good/fast, a year of fooling around on that and now I can type with great speed so what ever.

I learned by typing out all the swear words I could think of on my Grandma's typewriter. So I'm pretty great at cussing but not so great at all the other words. ####.

I use to be a pretty fast typer back in the day when I was in high school. Never made a mistake or even looked at the keyboard.
Nowadays, I can still type as fast but usually end up making a ton of misplaced letters in my words.

I learned on the old manual typewriter in grade ten. I was pretty good at the time but never touched or looked at a keyboard for X0 amount of years. What I like is hitting the back space and the del button as I am really a terrible typist now which makes my responses in a heated exchange very slow.
I did 30wpm with 26 mistakes in that linked test. I should practise but than I should do lots of things.

It probably says a lot about my typing style that I had to read through this entire thread just to understand what "home row" means. I guess I use 2 or 3 fingers on each hand, but there really isn't any technique to it at all. It probably looks weird to those of you who actually know how to type properly, but it works well enough for me.
