Does this not potentially put the Mets into the Tucker conversation?

Yeah, the Mets all of a sudden have $48M in salary that’s gone. I don’t see Cohen sitting on his hands this offseason. I’d suspect they’re fully in on someone like Tucker if they weren’t already.

Is Baltimore going to be the Oiler/Leafs of the MLB? They are just going to try and score their way to wins, who needs pitching and defense.

The Mets are always in the conversation for anyone as far as I know.
Hopefully big FA's are less interested in going there now though after the yearly tire fire they've become despite ridiculous spending. Missing the playoffs after signing Soto last year was comical.

Rule 5 draft is complete, the Jays didn't lose anyone, not even Pinango.
They selected RHP Spencer Miles from the Giants. 25 year old reliever who hasn't pitched above A ball because of injury but he touches 98/99mph with his FB. Huge K potential.
12 Ks, 1 BB, no HR in 8.2 AFL innings

I can't decide if Alonso is a guy who will fall off a cliff fast because he's so unathletic or if he's always been so unathletic the aging curve won't be so steep. Either way, doesn't seem like the kind of contract that will ruin a team although I'd rather have Schwarber despite the age difference.

Do they have to keep him on the roster for the season or am I mixing up my sports?

Yeah they have to keep him on the 26 man.
They also have to keep Bastardo, who they took from the Red Sox in last years rule 5 draft, on the 26 man or return him. He missed all last season recovering from TJS.
My bet is both get returned, but worth a look in spring training.

Unless I missed a rule change they don't have to keep Bastardo on the 26 man anymore and he can be freely optioned to the minors.

I believe he has to be on the active roster for 90 days before being optioned. So if he doesn't make it he would be returned.

Alonso was treated last off-season like a neglected ex. Instead of going to a team that wanted him (Jays), he walked back to the Mets. He didn't do bad at all last year but it took him a year to realize they didn't care for him. But the Orioles. About time they started adding. I like that they did do something. Agreed though Alonso isn't the most athletic specimen. Who knows how he'll do as he gets older.

It's hilarious what is happening to the Mets. Losing Diaz and Alonso, flipping Nimmo for an overpriced and aging Semien, and adding Williams, who at one point looked absolutely cooked last season. Cohen and all his Benjamins cant be happy. They're going to do something drastic soon I bet. Somewhere Tucker is licking his chops. Dude is going to get paiiid.

I always chuckle at that name.
It sounds like something you would hear shouted a lot at the villain of a telenovela.

Great player would like another great player to play with him.
In other news, Jose Berrios is likely to start the season with the Jays and I am not happy about it.
Edit - In other more pertinent news: Suarez to the Braves?
