The problem is the Amazon cloud content isn't necessarily available in Canada, and there is no indication that it will be in the near future. Officially at least.

Also, I don't have internet access 24/7, so while the idea of the 'cloud' being great for those that do, I would prefer to have a hard copy of all my stuff on the actual device. I use the cloud to sync stuff between different devices, not to store. Not yet at least.

And 8GB is not enough.

Wow I'm pleasantly surprised with the Playbook. RIM did so much right with QNX. The multitasking is phenomenal. Going back to iOS feels clunky in comparison.

It's a shame this platform is going to be dead within a year.

I agree, the multitasking is really amazing compared to my wife's iPad. The only thing I sometimes desire is to have a split screen functionality. Like watching a movie and an email comes in, would be nice to check and respond to the email while the show is playing.

You could just pick up your BB at that point, since if it wasn't nearby you'd have no email on the Playbook

Yeah it's really a shock to me that some things on the Playbook appear to be so well-thought out, but somebody managed to push this out the door without an email client or a calendar app of some sort. It's mind-boggling.

Ya, but the other thing that amazes me is that the email and calendar is so much better than the iPad versions when you do have it bridged to the blackberry. For someone with no blackberry it would be irritating and frustrating without question. But seriously if you have the blackberry you have everything that the iPad does and more, built right in.

Did RIM get some developers to make apps that I wasn't aware of? Sure it has multi tasking but its about integration. I want to have music play from my ipad on a speaker dock in my house automatically. It's the aftermarket support that has me stuck to my ipad then jumping ship for anything else at this point.

good to hear some satisfaction from the 2nd wave of cheap tablets.

I'm using an HP Tablet as we speak, quite pleased. Running WebOS and Android. I find that WebOS is actually not bad, preferred for the simple tasks, but Android has the markets for everything. And the boot time is hugely different, about 3 minutes for WebOS and maybe 20 seconds for andriod

Yeah it's a long way from replacing my iPad. I could see it being a fit for some people though. At $199 it's got a hardware advantage over anything else in its price range (that I know of); it performs as smoothly as any tablet I've played with.

If an 8GB limit on the Fire is a deal breaker, there's a spot for it as a budget tablet. I'd take it over a Gingerbread tablet.

Well it depends on your use. I actually hook mine up to my dock, but it plays through an aux input. There are definitely less apps at this point for the Playbook, but hopefully that changes when the new update is released.

The only real downfall for playbook that I see, at the $199 price, is the lack of apps. If I didn't have a Blackberry, it would be far less useful.

I had a PB for 2 months at launch, the multitasking was nice but soon you will realize as time goes on, multitasking is thrown out the window when you have limited apps to multitask with. Aside from surfing the web, watching a movie and checking email, what exactly are you going to multitask with? its a shame cause QNX had so much potential but i dont have any faith in RIM cause theyre notorious for talking big but never keeping thier promises.

Umm apps. Im not a heavy app person but if you dont even have a decent selection available for the device, it really limits the use of the device as a whole. Thats why i ended up getting rid of the PB and going back to my ipads, it was fun and dandy for a short time with the fancy OS but really when it all came down to it, it was nothing but a web browser to me (and not even a great one at that cause it had a lot of bugs).

Airplay is huge in my house. Being able to turn on playlist from iphone or ipad. Teamviewer is another one. You can use a web app on the playbook but it is buggy. I am also starting to do some home automation in my house. For most products coming out it is either ios or android app. Considering I couldn't trust RIM to keep a blackberry up to date and working I highly doubt they will be able to keep a playbook so that porting android apps if it is ever released actually works correctly.

I also don't use all of these other things that you describe, and have a blackberry (which I acknowledge as a major factor in this being a useful tablet!). That negates the need for a calendar for me. Basically everything from my desktop at work syncs automatically with the phone/tablet.

How do you live your life without netflix! I could see it being useful if you had a blackberry because then it would do exactly what icloud does for ios devices. Since I don't it would just be an internet browser for me. We have a playbook and an ipad at work and the playbook just sits in the safe. While ipad is taken everywhere for meetings, even though most people here still have blackberrys
