Yee haw the Tyne-Wear derby is back on.. wonder how much money they'll have to spend in the summer? Anyone else been watching the Championship games on Setanta today? The Nottm Forest one and this newcastle Sheffield Utd have been pretty entertaining.

I'm really worried about what's going to happen with next TV rights for the EPL next season. I've heard rumours that Sportsnet is going to go in full barrell and then create a Sportsnet2 and have it show the same amount of games as Setanta did. <fingers crossed>

That'd be cool as long as I could still see other leagues' games like the Championship, SPL and Ligue 1 but I can't see Sportsnet picking those rights up. That said I really like Setanta but paying $15 a month for it is pretty ridiculous.
This is funny, even the on site reporters dont want to watch Pompey games
Chris Kamara is famous for on-screen goofs like this one. He gets really excited at times and messes up his commentary or forgets red cards. Having said that he's very popular and seems like a passionate, energetic, funny guy.

Really? I happily pay for it - considering the option which is sparse coverage or a dodgy chinese stream; I'd be lost without it now.

ya I get lucky cause my family has a house in the states so I brought up a directv satellite a few years ago
with FSC and now FSC+ which used to be Setanta down there they show every premier league game every weekend and I think usually like 8 of 10 live (ESPN shows a game on saturdays as well)
With thescore losing the Premier league and sportsnet picking more up hopefully it can get like that up here, I remember fox sports canada used to show games but no longer

Yeah you're right I think ridiculous is the wrong word - I love the channel too and watch it all the time, the cost just adds up a bit for a poor university student haha.
And yeah it was really sweet when Fox Sports up here showed Premiership games and other leagues too, I don't watch it nearly as much now that it's pretty much just Serie A, although the Fox Soccer Report has gotten way better over the years and Sky Sports News is always good.

Isn't Setanta Canada partially owned by Sportsnet and using the license they would have used to create Sportsnet2? If so, I'm guessing it would simply be a reorganization and re-branding of Setanta into Sportsnet2. In addition to footy and rugby, I think Sporstnet2 would add cricket to their lineup.

Probably - IF they win the bidding war. Hopefully CBC doesn't get involved.
A little OT but since you guys are talking about coverage in Canada:
Anyone else think CBCs coverage of the WC this year is going to be mickey mouse? SN/TSN/CTV covered it last time IIRC and they showed lots of games and had great coverage, at least from my casual soccer watching POV.
I get the feeling CBC will absolutely embarrass themselves with piss poor coverage and there will be hardly any games available. Even if CBC shows different games on their HD west and HD east channels that I get I still don't think it'll come close to the amount of coverage we got with SN and TSN combining forces in 06.
It'll be the difference between previous CBC olympic coverage and this years AMAZING CTV/TSN/SN olympic coverage.
CBC was good during the confederations cup last year, they had the British announcers doing the games as well. Which may be a minus to some but its a huge plus to me
I had no complaints with the confederations cup, and only on the last day of the group games are there games at the same time. So if they don't show every game it would be a surprising failure even for them

CBC announced all games but 8 will be on CBC-HD for the WC. I'm too lazy to get the link but they announced it a couple of weeks ago. The 8 games that will not be in HD will be the final games in the group stages when both games with kick off at the same time.

How many are going to be on that 'CBC Bold' nonsense that no one actually buys?

Hopefully they can at least put them on different CBC channels, most people probably have digital cable/satellite so they could put the two games on different channels. Because most likely every game will have implications for 1 of the teams involved.
Most likely though they will show the game with the biggest teams
i.e France/South Africa instead of Mexico/Uruguay
Germany/Ghana instead of Serbia/Australia
Great results today if you are a City fan - United drawing, City winning and Liverpool stinking it up. Lots of tight races all across the Premiership from top to bottom.
