Hamonic is 25, Gio is 32. I would make that trade any day of the week. Islanders obviously have to add something as well but it's not as far fetched as people are making it seem. By the time the Flames are actual contenders Gio will be 35/36 and likely the 3/4/5th D-man while Hamonic will be in the prime of his career at age 28/29.

Gio is also coming off two injuries and has been injured pretty much every season and it's starting to take its toll.

Would not mind a trade involving those two at all.

Sounds weird but I'm also in the camp that would rather trade Gio than Hamilton.
But I know locker room chemistry is huge for NHL teams and trading Gio might hurt that a lot. Still think it's worth it in the long run but it's hard to understand how negatively it would impact the team in the present.

It is far fetched for obvious reasons. I don't see how the Flames would consider moving their captain after all the good things they said about him. Also the Islanders are adding a lot if it happened

Because no way that looks like an attractive offer for Hamonic.

Gio for Hamonic wtf are you guys thinking. There is some serious overrating of Hamonic in here wow. You guys know that Gio was the front runner for the Norris before he got hurt last year right? He's the life blood of the team. smh

If you think that is what it would take to get Zidlicky or Strait it shows how little you understand about player value.

I don't think the trade makes sense for either but it is more likely to happen for one of those guys than Hamonic.

If you think the Islanders are going to trade their top defenseman that is 25 and on a great deal for half a season of Russell and Hudler and a b level prospect that struggles to make their top 5 in forward prospects than you are insane.

I agree that doesn't get it done but a ridiculous rebuttal saying that package is worth nothing more than a 5/6 Dman is more insane. I don't see any way 2 Flames rentals get Hamonic.

That one flew over your head a little.

adc is right. The islanders are not going to give a 25 year old top 4 d-man with good term for any number of unrestricted free agents. Will not happen.

We can put the Gio for Hamonic to rest. Burkes comments about Gio on Friday all but guaranteed he is not going anywhere. I won't get into specifics however it was very high praise for our current captain.

I hope to see Gio get back into form and make everyone who suggests such a trade eat their words.

Adc was pointing out the absurdity of a Russell (ufa) hurdler (ufa) & klimchuck (who is barely a top 5 prospect, if that) for an asset like harmonic.

You missed the joke.

I think everyone would be thrilled to eat their words but if Gio doesn't return to form soon then that contract was a huge mistake.

I was using hyperbole to point out why these ridiculous proposals where we trade our garbage for top players on other teams are silly.

The fact that when reversed you (after missing the point) were upset and questioned my ability to judge talent as that is the feeling when people make the ridiculous proposals in our favor that most people should have.

The fact that you have to use the word hope there should show you why people are willing to deal him for Hamonic.

There is not certainty that he will return to that level and he certainly isn't playing that well right now.

I get you were trying to make a point but the example you used is so off base it comes across as a gross overrating of Hamonic which this thread is full of. This thread has both ends of the spectrum. One where fans wouldn't consider moving any core players out and others that think we would be trading for an elite player so we better give up our captain or 22 year old Dman we were gushing over all summer.

Russell is a 30+pt Dman that has logged 23+ minutes the past few years and is 28. Hudler averages roughly 50pts a season and spiked with 76 last year. Klimchuck is an average prospect but still a 20 year old first year pro and former first round pick. Due to contract status of the 2 Flames vets it doesn't make sense to trade a solid 2-4 Dman with good term and money left on his deal. I think it is an unrealistic proposal but by no means do I think it is so insulting to claim that offer should be made for a Dman that made the team off a PTO.

Lets not forget that Snow is over a barrel here, no matter how good Hamonic might be (debatable), his value is discounted greatly because there's only a few teams he wants to go to. So anyone who thinks we have to give up one of our top three defenceman to make it happen just doesn't understand the situation.

Hamonic also has said he will happily play for the Islanders this season so Snow isn't over any barrel at all. He has plenty of time to hold on and wait until he gets a quality offer from the multiple teams that Haminic has expressed interest in going to.

I really don't think the Flames are willing to trade what it will take to get the deal done. If the Oilers get serious and decide to toss out a Eberle plus a dman package we could see him land in Deadmonton. This is exactly what the Oilers need.

He still requested the trade with limited destinations.
Maybe over a barrel is a little much, but trade value has been reduced. The longer this takes to play out, the more so.
