I think the rule is if you kick it over you only have to get a "piece" of the post, not necessarily kick it inside.

Despite the absolute dominance on both sides of the football the Broncos have left a lot of points on the board and this game is still in doubt heading into the 4th quarter.
If they manage to hang on they'll have to execute much better next week.
