My initial reaction has softened i think. I wasn't a big Hamilton fan so am happy to get hanifan, at his age and potential, as a replacement.

Lindholm is a more well rounded forward who can play wing and c and i just realized he shoots RIGHT! i think that's a big deal.

Still, i bet fox is one if tge top ncaa players next year, with hobey baker aspirations...

How was he just a "throw in".

Its very unlikely the deal gets done without Fox included.

thats using an asset to get another asset you want...sort of what making trades are all about.

Sure. Minor evidence is better than pure speculation to help my opinion, which is just an opinion and has holes.

Hamilton is better now, but hanifin undoubtedly has a higher ceiling. People seem to forget how much hype is around that kid. Better production last season than dougie at his age.

What's interesting is that Boston acquired all those picks for Hamilton in an attempt to move up to draft Hanifin.

I think the fact that Fox was included also indicates that the team was not confident he could be re-signed.

This trade essentially re-makes the entire look of the top-six and the team’s defense, and I like the players coming back A LOT. It feels like an overpayment, but without seeing the on-ice results I will remain somewhat ambivalent.

After this the Flames have a lot of really intriguing, young forward pieces: along with Monahan, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk, now also Lindholm added to a group that includes Bennett and Jankowski.

The Flames defense is starting to look more like it is in a stage of transition to much younger players.
CP CP’g. Nothing is ever good enough.

I also believe we are not done. Whether we go UFA route or move another Dman I still see another RW coming to play with Tkachuk. And Jankowski who is going to light it up as the second line center.

Way too mich risk for the potential reward

And on top of that, you throw away the biggest physical presence on the team and a future top 4 dman
I’m sorry but Hamilton will never win the Norris.

Fox not wanting to sign here does change this a little bit.

If other teams caught wind of that then his value is down around the league.

Also think that Jermaine Franklin just posted an interesting tweet

The most intersting comment from this 1-on-1 is the fact that the Brodie experiment on the left side is over...the plan is to put him back on the right side with Giordano...He'll probably retrieve some pucks for the Captain as well
Not sure what he meant about the "retrieve some pucks" line...was there a feeling that Dougie didn't go into the corners hard enough in the d-zone and left the heavy lifting to Gio...it's possible.

After thinking about this, I actually think this trade is pretty decent. Ferland is as streaky as they come, yes he put up big numbers but IMO I never got the sense that he was a legit 1st line RW. Lindholm seems to be a more consistent two way RW, he was a high pick and has probably got more potential than Ferland, so win there I’d say.

Hamilton, right now is better than Hanifin. But by all accounts Hanifin is much more well rounded and has a lot of potential still. If he lives up to it, the Flames will win this trade.

Fox, I’m guessing he wasn’t going to sign.

Hanifin is going to be a fan favorite after the first half dozen games. He is the heir apparent to Gio.

This is an awful trade and I'm not even big on Ferland.

Oh well, what do I expect.

What was the story about Hamilton passing on the exit meeting?

i think the trade isn't as bad as some have been saying esp if there are extenuating circumstances - yes losing Fox stings and i would have preferred to have used another pick rather than a prospect for the deal...

but outside of that piece, Hanifin and Lindholm for Hamilton and Ferland?

that seems reasonable... the Fox add tips the balance to Carolina imo but we'll have to see if he becomes a player or not...

I'm surprisingly happy about this. Hamilton is great offensively but not sure he will be as good without Gio covering for him, he also took a lot of dumb penalties at bad times.

Fair to say we don’t know what the perception of Fox’s actual value is/was. Now sounds like signing him was anything but certain. It appeared from statements made by Flames management that there were no concerns about Fox being a flight risk - which is what you would have to say to preserve any value - but given the other pieces moving here resisting the ask to include Fox would have been justifiable.

I like it.

Hamilton was awesome, but you gotta give to get. Makes our forwards better, too. I've always thought Ferland was overrated. Hanifin could be the wildcard in this trade - he's got a very high ceiling.

Don't give two fox about Adam. Not sure he would have signed here anyways.

I guess part of what we’re getting back on this deal is the return of Right-Side Brodie.

I would have prefered to move him and keep Hamilton, but unfortunately two seasons of Left-Side Brodie probably soured his value.

So, yes, we gave up a shiat-load, but one way to look at it is:

Hamilton
Ferland
Fox

Lindholm
Hanifin
Brodie
