 Gaudreau - Eichel -
 Tkachuk - Lindholm -

That's a strong 4 core forwards to build around for the next 5 years.
 |
I really like Gaudreau and Lindholm together. Also, Gaudreau and Eichel both want to be the playmaker. I would go with

Eichel - Tkachuk
Gaudreau - Lindholm

as my pairs

Too bad this is just an orange Julius guy instead of a nhl insider. Or am I missing something?

And yes great forward and goalie groups but I still think short a top dman to be a real contender.

$72M for 13 guys, would have to fill the roster with 10 players of under $1M

 But... you'd have:

 Gaudreau - Eichel - Tkachuk
 Mangiapane - Lindholm - Coleman
 Backlund

 Hanifin - Andersson
 Kylington - Tanev

 Markstrom
 Vladar

That's the core of a contender

Unless someone emerges they have no legit #1 Dman.

I'd still take my chances with that core over the one we currently have.

Very much orange Julius.

Friedman got Radioed as he said the Flames and Knights are still teams he is hearing with Anaheim cooling and still sounds like nothing is coming. The grievance path seems likely.

Some HF guy who says he knows someone says he is hearing Calgary is pushing to close the deal and it is close. Buffalo doesn’t want the grievance as well which hopefully closes the deal shortly. The Hf guy has speculated pieces he has heard.

No one knows if it is true but a couple of things happened that has everyone excited.

That would be pretty f-ing incredible. Throwing Gaudreau and Eichel at the other team back to back would be very difficult to deal with.

I would try Gaudreau and Eichel together, for the reason that Gaudreau creates so much space, and Eichel is one of the best in the league at using space.

I agree there is no way to keep all 3 while adding Eichel. I feel like it is most likely that they move Dube today and then Tkachuk would be moved in the summer to St.Louis/Ottawa for the most futures possible which softens the blow of the futures out for Eichel.
 |
I would trade Hanifin or Coleman before I'd trade Tkachuk for cap purposes. I know Hanifin is youngish, but he does not bring good value for $5M. Ditto for Coleman, good player, but a luxury.

IMO Defense hasn't been an issue for us so far, even without a traditional #1 defenseman. And Sutter always seems to find a way to get the most out of his D. If Mangiapane and Dube stay and Eichel is added? That would be an incredible forward group.
I hope Tre is trying to sell to Buffalo that Valimaki can play RD. I feel like Mackey can replace him on the 3rd pairing.

 |
Then thank Christ you are not our GM. Mangiapane is a good winger but he can't be a no in a trade that brings you a franchise young C. That is crazy.

Friedman this morning says team he has heard most about is Calgary.

Then HF guy says Calgary has been frontrunner for a few weeks, in a chess match around pieces involved, specifically Dube/Mangi vs Vali/prospect.

OJ rumour but dude appears to have a lot of specifics, and it falls in line with Friedman's remarks.

Either way, some grounds for excitement. But I'm in the same boat. I'm not believing it until I see "it is close" from an NHL insider.

As for the top d-man... maybe we recoup Gio for cheap next season?

Doesn't send a good message to any UFA you want to sign in the future.
Can't see Monahan or Coleman being involved, if you're the GM of Buffalo why would you want Monahan?

I think Hanifin is one of the best value contracts on the team. He is so critical now with Gio and Brodie moving on.

Because they’re trying to move a player with a $10 mil cap hit, and two of the three teams that are supposedly still in the mix are right up against the cap. They’re going to have to take at least $5 mil back. I agree that Monahan doesn’t have much value (which is why a Calgary deal likely involves more pieces going back to Buffalo), but it’s very hard to see a plausible deal that doesn’t involve him.

No, I’m not including Coleman as a piece for Eichel, I’ve already posted what I believe they’d want, which is mostly futures. My point about Hanifin and Coleman are in regards to next offseason with a potential looming cap crunch if Eichel is acquired.

As for Monahan, he makes the most sense for Buffalo as contracts have to go back to make the cap work. Im sure they’d rather have Lindholm, but that’s not even negotiable. He’s as untouchable as it gets here.
