Yeah that's fair. Hope it turns out to be decent in the long run.

Yet here we are.
This isn't true. The 4th round in particular is shockingly good. Nearly as good as the third round. And for some reason, the 6th round is better than the 5th round.
In 2015, 28 players taken in the 4th and 5th rounds have played in the NHL. Nearly half.

The first 6 rounds definitely have value.

I'm glad Lindholm is gone actually, there was a bit of a worry about the downstream effects of taking your 1st line C out of the lineup but it turns out he was dragging the line down not holding anything up.

Should alleviate the concern that it's playoff revenue or bust for the Flames.
Honestly that's where I'm coming from when assessing this deal. I thought the recent win streak might mean a roster freeze from ownership in a bid to make the playoffs. Glad we got return for Tanev at all. Sure, I would have liked to see a first. But this is better than standing pat, which is what I was starting to get concerned about.

How much cap space are the Flames supposed to have this off-season?

I wonder if at some point we see Conroy buying on a young center.

Comparing the OHL to the OJHL is like comparing a Ford F-150 to a Dacia Sandero

The name value blinded a lot of people to the reality that he's stunk since Gaudreau packed up and left town.

He even has the skill around him in VAN now but still appears to be mediocre.

Easily one of Conroy's top 5 trades.

Well for starters, LA needs a Markstrom to have a shot at anything.

A drop off in offense between these types of players doesn't mean much. Grushnikov doesn't need to match Tanev's point totals to make it a good deal.

I think we can assume this is the best Conroy could go.

Surprised someone did not anti up a 1st.

Disappointed the dman has a small chance ceiling of a 6/7 dman.

But it’s a late 2nd round pick, better than nothing.

What can you do if the market is not there.

Was obviously hoping for a bigger return for what will be a playoff warrior. But if this was the best return, so be it.

Grushnikov is a fascinating case study in that despite a statistical profile that virtually never translates to the NHL, he has always had some believers because of his skating, length and ability to defend. He’s got balanced posture and control in his skating, which he uses effectively gapping up. He’s an excellent backward skater. He’s got a disruptive stick and an ability to track and then close out physically (which hasn’t always been part of his game but has developed over time).

He’s got a pro build at 6-1 and a playing weight in the 190s. He has just enough poise and vision with the puck to advance play and occasionally involve himself (he started to activate more late in his junior career, and while that hasn’t continued in his rookie season in the AHL, I do think there are more opportunities for him to use his smooth skating and influence play than he realizes). He has defended well for a 20-year-old rookie in the AHL. Time will tell if his defending is high-end enough to carry him into a No. 6/7 role, but the Stars clearly have belief in him or they wouldn’t have drafted him in the second round, signed him and bypassed the ECHL for the AHL.
Sounds like Kuznetsov. Star scouts have a strong track record. Although this guy is ranked 10th by The Athletic.

I think the point is more so that 17 points is pretty well below the Mendoza line for what NHLers should produce at that age at that level

In Junior simply making good outlet passes should get you more than 17 points. So it’s definitely a red flag.
