Some anecdotes of Jagr's early years in the NHL, courtesy of Mike Lange (Penguins broadcaster) on the Player's Tribune:

Quote:
And Jags, from the moment he joined that crew, just soaked in everything about that atmosphere. He was so willing to learn, and to accept advice from people who were looking to help him get better. Quite honestly, when he first came into the league he only had one shot, and that was the backhand. That ain’t gonna cut it in the NHL. So he went to work. Rick Kehoe spent a ton of time with Jaromir and really taught him how to shoot the puck. But Jags also just watched other players closely and took bits and pieces from their games.

He was a big guy, a solid 240 pounds, and at first he wasn’t great at getting through traffic. So he watched Stevens and learned to use his butt to clear out space. It was like, Here, you want space? Just shake your big ass. It sounds stupid, but it’s true. Kevin taught Jaromir how to be a big old Saint Bernard in the corners.

And my God, did that kid watch Lemieux like a hawk. To this day he’ll tell you, without any hesitation, that 66 was the best player who ever played the game. Jags just wanted to do all he could to learn from Mario early on, and without both those guys firing on all cylinders that year, you probably don’t win that first Cup.

For a team with a lot of good, young players, I hope they soak up as much knowledge as they can from this guy...

It is common knowledge that Jagr has been granted a divine exemption from 'Age' so lag of any kind does not apply to him.

Yeah, I didn't start anything, just offering. If he declines, so be it. I don't know why he would though.

Today is Jagr. I'm seeing him everywhere.

I took my daughter to the doctor this morning and saw this poster....

Honestly, if you don't get a chance to watch Jagr play live in a Flames jersey, I will consider that a crime against humanity.

Listen up CP, we all need to chip in and make this a reality for calgaryboy. His passion for the flames is unparalleled around here, and now he can watch one of his idols play for his favorite team. I will not sit idly by and watch as this opportunity slips away from him.

I'm asking that we start a Go Fund Me page or something for him so that he can come to Calgary this year and watch at least one game. I don't know what the cost would be, so maybe calgaryboy can help determine what he needs to get over the hump and let us know.

I'm committing $100 of my own money to this cause right now. Who's with me?
For the third time calgaryboy can of course stay at my house.
I will also help out with a flight.
When the time comes, if it does; I hope we can get some tickets off the Buy and Sell here at CP.
People were so very generous with tickets the last time.
I am sure calgaryboy will go what he can to make this trip.
Will talk to him tonight/ tomorrow.

It's funny, when planning his previous trip he made sure it fell during a home stand with Jagr a visiting player.

I'm so happy I went down stairs and played with the Penguins on my Super Nintendo just so I could use Jagr just like I have done a thousand times in my life

You know what he'd love?
Meet up with a group of us at a pub for an away game.

Also, had 5-6 CPers over to my house and calgaryboy got to sit around and talk Flames for a couple hours. He loved that day!

Two options for contributing. Not hard on a students wallet.

Assuming CalgaryBoi can make it, I will totally break my beerfast for his visit.

Just thought of something.

Assuming Jagr plays with Bennett and Versteeg, we have the 3M line and now the 3 Gen line.

Well it is all over the news....

The flames won't make it official until he's in Calgary. I'm sure he'll be at the presser.

It's on NHL.com and the headline is Jagr signs with Flames, so yeah. No doubt anymore.

I don't believe this has been mentioned yet, Jagr's first NHL coach was none other than Flames legend Badger Bob Johnson.

Spoiler!
