Apparently these guys can only play 5 set classics. This is the best matchup in tennis for sure. Wonderful match.

Novak hasn't learned yet? The Wawrinka backhand is the most lethal shot maybe ever

In the final three matches Stan averaged 15 winners a set. He was amazing, just brutalizing the ball on both sides and playing clutch shots every time he needed them. Spectacular stuff in the final to beat Novak.

Novak just amazingly gracious in defeat. He'll win one eventually but no one was beating Stan with how he played today.

Novak finally beats Nadal at Roland Garros, and still doesn't walk away with the trophy. And yet he was still pure class in the end. Easy to see why the French gave him a longer ovation than they did Stan. And Stan was well lauded himself!

Genie, Genie, Genie....another first round loss, this might be the worst one yet as she was up 4-0 in the 3rd set and loses 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Worst part is I doubt this is rock bottom for her, she probably has further to fall.

I thought she might throw herself in the mix for the PanAm team to get more matches in, but I guess not. Canada will have some good talent though: Françoise Abanda, Gabriela Dabrowski, and Sharon Fichman along with Philip Bester, Peter Polansky, and Brayden Schnur.

Nice to see all six of them to get the opportunity.

Did the money get to her head? Lost the drive to win?

It would be shocking indeed if this was the end for Genie, but she sure isn't showing any drive to compete.

Flash in the Pans seem to be fairly common in Tennis.

I don't know if I've seen anything like it. Genie is playing as if she's actually betting money against herself during matches. I guess we haven't ruled out voodoo curse either.

Genie lost a three setter again today, this time to Mladenovic:

6-3, 4-6, 6-0.

Can't speak in specifics because I didn't see the match, but getting another goose egg in the closing set is pretty telling.

Is it time for her to take a break? Seems like her psyche could use a long vacation and come back fresh a few months down the road. She just keeps playing and losing, something needs change it up.

It's pretty clearly all in her head right now. Wins the 2nd set, comes back and gets bageled? The mental warrior of last year is gone, and you obviously have to speculate that she simply has her focus on other areas beyond tennis. Thing is, if her decline continues as rapidly as it's going she'll be in the 50's ranking wise by year end. Hate bringing this name up, but only Kournikova could still get big sponsor deals playing at that level. So she's playing herself out of a lot of money outside the court as well.

She still has to bottom out too which will be the real test for her. At this point she might not win 5 more matches the rest of the year. At least Milos is back though so we can maybe get some positive Canadian tennis stories going again.

Is Nadal done as well? Lost to Dolgopolov yesterday.

he won Stuttgart on Sunday I think, could just be fatigue. but expectations of Rafa on grass have been low for a few years now.

Looking at the draw, Milos has a pretty good opportunity to reach the finals. He next plays Gilles Simon of France and if victorious would then face the winner of Kevin Anderson vs. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
