Ok. So, I downloaded .Net1.1. Tried to run the game again, no luck, exact same thing. I also downloaded MSVCR71.dll from a website. Then I downloaded Directx for the fourth time, still no luck. I tried it right away and then after restarting and...nothing. I'm getting awfully frustrated with this thing.
Any help??

Try putting that file in your game directory where the .exe file is located to run the game. Also check your 'path' environment variable. It might not be pointing to important directories like C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32, etc.

Ok, I'm really unskilled on the computer. How do I do what you've suggested? Just pretend you're instructing somebody's grandfather how to do this stuff.

Open up My Computer. Right click on C:\ drive or whatever drive Windows is installed in and click search. Type the file name in and click search. When it finds the file right click on the file and select copy. Then go to the directory where the game is located, right click on the folder and select paste.

I did what you suggested with both MSVCR71.dll and D3DX9_27.DLL.
Now I'm getting the following message when I try to run the game:
ffe.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point D3DXMatrixLookAtLH could not be located in the dynamic link library D3DX9_27.DLL
WTF?!?
More help???

Get rid of the D3DX9_27.DLL file you copied over and see what happens.

Uninstall the .Net 1.1 Framework THEN re-install it.

Can anyone recommend a good/cheap place that repairs laptop hardware problems? I'm 98% certain the problem with my computer lies with a loose connection between the motherboard and the AC plug. If you jiggle the part where the power cord connects to the laptop you loose power in certain positions. I've tried taking the laptop apart myself but I was unable to gain access to the component (and I have never soldered anything in my life). Any suggestions?
In case it matters, my laptop is an ECS G551. It was a barbones laptop I put together myself with components from Memory Express. The warranty is long up; it's about three and a half years old and runs perfectly fine otherwise.

Notebook problem here.
I have an Acer Travelmate 2310. Got it for christmas last year from the parents. Not the greatest machine but gets the job done when it comes to school.
Anyways, The CD-ROM drive has completely died on me after very minimal usage. When I am logged onto XP and press the drive button to open it up there is no response. No whirring, no light. Nothing.
However, when I log off XP or turn the computer off/restart it. The drive pops open regardless of whether or not I pressed the button when it was turned on/logged on.
I've tried 10s of DVDs/CDs and each time I get nothing when I insert a new disc and log back on. Nothing comes up in "My Computer" showing the presence of a working drive (my ROM drive has only ever shown up in My Computer when it was functioning and there was a disc inside my machine)
I've tried pressing the "manual open" button (the do-hickey where u put a pin through the small hole to open it up automatically) and then putting a disc in while logged onto XP as well and it's never worked either.
Obviously, I'm not a tech guy in the least. I can work my way around machines pretty well when they're healthy but when a problem like this comes up I am completely lost. I really can't grasp why it opens when logged off but not otherwise.
I was thinking of re-installing Windows in the hope that the driver might fix itself somehow that way but because the laptop was a gift I am unaware of whether it came with an XP disc (my parents don't seem to think so but cannot remember for sure)
Anyways enough rambling from me. Hopefully I've given enough info to give some kind soul an idea of what's going on with my machine.
Any thoughts/input is extremely appreciated. Cheers.

If it came with the proper disc you can easily re-install the drivers for it. Also try going to windows updates and manually selecting the drivers. If you choose custom it will ignore the hardware drivers, so manually choose the drivers, they may have an updated driver there (it isn't likely but worth a shot).
One other way to get a driver is by going to Acer's site. I'm not certain if Acer does it, but most manufacturers will have drivers that you can download and they are sorted by the model number or your machine.

Wireless problem here.
At my cousins' house and one of her firends came over and installed the wireless router yesterday. Set up the network and my cousin's laptop connects to this network 100%. Only problem is that the internet doens't work on the laptop or the CPU that is hard-wired. The set up is as such....A network cord connecting the MODEM to the ROUTER'S WAN port. Then another network cord(all be it a sketchy one) going from PORT 1 on the router to the CPU.
Any idea's how I can fix this problem????

Telus or Shaw?
I'll bet that it is Telus. If so then you need to log onto the router and clone the mac address of the computer that previously connected to the modem. Either that or register the mac address of the router on telus' oca site (which you can get to even if you don't connect to internet)
Just to be safe, make sure that the cable is securely connected to both the modem and the router.

I think logging onto the oca site through a router still works... and as soon as you do that both the laptop and the desktop will work...

Yes, you are correct. Unless your internet is actually down, you can always get to the OCA site.

I think OCA limits you to 2 MAC addresses, so if those are both used you either need to remove one or, even easier, do as Buff mentioned and clone the compuetr's mac address to the router.

ok , so I know not much about computers, so probably will get lingo wrong
have a laptop that I usually use with my home network . although I have a wireless router at home, I rarely go wireless at home instead plug into the network
anyways went to a conference last week, and tinkered with my laptop in order to get onto their wireless network (not positive what I did?)
so now at home, my laptop won't recognized the home network...I know the internet (shaw) still works at home b/c the desktop still works fine. however the laptop appears not to recognize the network even when plugged in (in fact even when I attach the cable to the back of the laptop it fails to 'light up' in the back...I tried plugging the laptop into the desktop cable..same problem)
in short, the laptop is now all wireless, all the time...what gives?

Another wireless laptop issue. I recently was using my laptop in the Vegas airport. It took forever to do anything. It would take two minutes just to delete an email message. I'd go onto a website and anything I wanted to do took a very long time. There were a couple of girls using their laptops and I asked and was told that there laptops were acting normally. Now I'm at home on my home wireless network and it works fine.
Could it have been my location in the airport (about 30 metres away from the two girls)? Why would my laptop work so slowly on the airport's wireless system?
