I don't know anything about scotch just that that is what he likes.
You can pick up the Dalwhinnie 15 year at Costco for 69.99 if that helps at all.

As for comparables, one of the vets might be able to chime in, but here is the graph charting where on the scale Dalwhinnie lies. It would probably be okay to pick something close to where it lies

How much did this cost in Arizona? I have a bottle, paid $85 at superstore, but have often seen it as high as $110 at other places.

Last Minute: Anyone seen the Scotch/Whiskey Advent Calendars anywhere? I have called around and it seems all places you had to pre-order or are sold out.

If anyone sees one this weekend while out and about please let me know!

Thanks,

When I was last at Kensington Wine Market there were a few left.

Crowfoot Liquorstore NW had a bunch of these as well. (The same ones that were referenced earlier in the thread)

Good luck

For those that don't mind spending a bit more on a good single malt, KWM is having a few really good names on a decent sale. Just got back from the store with the following:

Not cheap, by any means, but also close to US prices. (Talisker 25 price is going up to $350/bottle in two weeks.)

They had their Ancient Malts festival yesterday I think it was. I was following Andrew Ferguson on twitter, looked like some pretty good scotch was there. Did you go?

Not this one, but I know Andrew and have been to several of KWM's tasting events. KWM has the best selection of single malts in Calgary but they are overpriced except for their sales, which could be very good sometimes (like the one going now).

Oban is a balanced SM Scotch, so go for the middle of the chart. You said "collection", which is a bit confusing. Oban 15 is not a collectible Scotch. If you are looking for a serious single malt that IS a collectible, buy Master of Macallan Batch 3 for $175 at KWM. This is a special, limited edition series Scotch and it is of the similar balanced palate to Oban 15. Call them first, Nancy or Andrew will set a bottle aside for you.

I've got an unopened 750ml bottle of Glenfiddich 12. Not my favorite.

Does anyone want to trade one they don't care for?

Still it in the back of the cabinet and bring it out for guests.

Unless you are looking specifically for something exclusively sold at KWM, don't buy anything at KWM without checking prices elsewhere first. KWM regular-priced single malts are ALWAYS significantly overpriced compared to Costco and Superstore.

Gents,

I'm buying a bottle as a gift for a friend, he's big into the smoky scotches, any suggestions on a nice bottle I can pick up for him?

Price considerations?

Laphroaig quarter cask can be had for about 40

Lagavulin 16 year can be had for about 85

Lagavulin 16, or Ardbeg Uigedail, Corryvrekan or Supernova. Whichever your friend doesn't have a full one of.
