I remember going the Calgary to see a game live at the Dome. I ordered sushi delivered to my hotel room and didn't get any soy sauce with it. I called them back and they said that they were too busy to bring me any. I said that I would never order from them again, and they said that I was staying at a hotel so they didn't care if I would never order from them again. I mean, I guess that makes sense. I told people I know in Calgary about that experience, and they pretty much said that rudeness in the hospitality industry is the norm.

With the direction this thread has turned, I'm half-expecting a springs1 appearance any minute now.

What a fantastic interview. Definitely the case of a smaller player overcoming all the odds to reach the status he has now. Everything being cut and passed over by multiple junior teams, no agents taking him on, his mom representing him, to the legendary Dale Hawerchuck spring boarding him to an NHL career. Incredible story.

Always has a smile on his face and the game time motor to make an impact each and every game. The MVP of the WC tournament on now being looked at for the Olympic team. Amazing. Lock this kid up to a max contract please.

They're actually tied for 1st if you account for games player, or use team GAA

However, as to the OP’s point there aren’t a lot of family friendly places. It’s mostly bars/pubs and a few upscale joints.
I live in the neighbourhood and 100% can tell you that you’re right. Most bars and restaurants are packed. Perhaps try Alumni, great sandwiches and food, not super big but a nice spot closeish to the Dome. Keep in mind it’s about a 20 minute walk from there.

I'll take your word on that. Since I'm not interested in bars, and the restaurants I liked on 17th when I lived nearby (2011-2017) are nearly all gone now, I haven't been there for a while.

But a lot of places did bite the dust in those few years.

Yeah saw this.

Only Carolina between us and holding stingiest team honors.

Always felt GA was the stat you could be most proud of, even over GF

Very much 2012-14 Kings numbers. It's amazing the transformation Darryl has made.

This does not jive with my experience at all.

I have experienced rudeness in the hospitality industry in large cities all around the world, but not once in Calgary. Nor have I heard enough stories from others to be able to come anywhere near calling it a thing here.

Sorry to hear your experience, but I don't think it is anything systemic.

The crazy thing for me is that the Rangers didn't think he was worth a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick. That would have been the end of pajama time for me. If I was eligible and the Flames passed on me multiple times I wouldn't come crawling back because I grew up a fan.

When is the +40 draft by the way

For real? lots of players get pissed about teams that don't draft them and really feel loyal to the team that gave them a chance when others wouldn't

Rangers didn't think he was worth a pick, why be loyal to them

I mean I have heard countless interviews with players saying similar. Some players spend their whole careers trying to prove that teams that passed on them made a mistake.

As a lifelong Flames fan I would be more loyal to a team that used an asset to get me into their organization

Obviously me getting drafted is the far fetched part here

The problem with the take is it's just factually incorrect.
The Rangers didn't have an opportunity to draft him that year.
The Flames picked up #66.
The Rangers first pick that year was #81.

Their first was used in a deal to get Keith Yandle and their 2nd was used to get Eric Staal

EDIT: Not pointing out to slam Dino, just noting that they didn't have the picks to draft him even if they had interest. At minimum Fox couldn't hold it against them.

I agree with you, but while the Flames thought he was worth a pick, they then locked up the right side of blueline for the next three years. Likewise, the Hurricanes traded for him, while having a pretty congested right side D themselves.

I'm also highly suspicious of Rangers tampering while he was a college player. Don't want to get all libellous but I don't trust that organization to leave other teams' college prospects to their own devices.

I seem to recall reading about an NBA free agent who didn't want to sign with any team that passed on the draft, including his own team, as they passed on him the first round and drafted him in the second. He went to a team that didn't have a first round pick due to having traded it away. Sadly, I cannot recall who it was to verify if my recollection is correct, and my Google-fu is also failing to turn anything up.
