Moonfall needed to drop the stupid storyline with the kids and go all in on the crazy sci-fi backstory. But as has been mentioned, it benefitted from leaning in to the ridiculousness of the plot.

I've been knocking some sci-fi movies off my always too long "want to watch" list. Finally watched 2001: A Space Odyssey. Have to say, I really enjoyed it. I was surprised at how watchable it was, as I was expecting it to be a bit clunky due to its age. Made me wonder what it would cost now to do a space scifi with no CGI and just all old school special effects.
Also finally watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which was excellent. And lastly, watched Moon which was really good as well.

Like...I love disaster movies and how campy they all can be. Just that this one...Roland Emmerich didn't even try.

I watched Moonfall over the past 2 Flames games... so which was worse?

Just came home from watching 'Hatching', a 2022 Finnish horror movie that might become available to your local festival (or some streaming service later on) due to it getting very good reviews at Sundance. (Currently also sitting at 89% at Rotten Tomatoes if you care about such things.)
Very much in the same modern horror vein as films like 'Midsommar', 'Babadook' and 'Let the Right One In' (which is a bit older), where the intention is less to scare to audience and more to take them on a weird and creepy emotional ride, with some dark humor thrown in for variety.
If those kinds of films are your jam and you don't go in expecting a masterpiece, you will very likely be solidly entertained and left with a pleasant "okay well that was something" feeling.
Themes include mother-daughter -relationship, drive for perfection and suppressed emotions, with a pretty young teenage lead. There's also some decent creature feature visuals, even though the 'horror' is mostly about psychology and messed up social dynamics.
My favorite thing about the movie was probably the number of times the story or just a scene within the story took a turn I wasn't expecting at all, yet without ever feeling like it was just messing with audience expectations for the sake of it. While the movie definitely had it's weaknesses too, I'm willing to forgive a LOT of other stuff just for that refreshing feeling where I'm genuinely not sure where the story is headed next.

It was the first pixar movie for me since Toy Story 3.
The mom was super annoying to make it enjoyable for me.

Turning Red has to be one of Pixar’s oddest films giving us a coming of age tale using the Teen Wolf turning into an animal metaphor. The tone was inconsistent with some serious mature themes set against the back drop of a silly Pixar movie. The story was fine but I felt it needed to pick a lane and would have worked better as something like an A24 drama or going fully in the other direction as a comedy marketed to teenage girls. Lots of neat Canadian references though and it left me wanting a box of timbits. 6/10

every woman I've spoken to about it loved it, though. hugely. 10/10
Just a movie I think that there is more to appreciate if you're a female who has gone through puberty.

About 27 years too late, but I finally got around to watching the BlueRay edition of HEAT. What an amazing film. Top 10 on my list for sure. Literally everything about the movie was near perfect quality. On BlueRay it looked stunning. Could have easily thought it was made recently if I had never heard of it before.
Happy to finally check it off my list.

Everything, everywhere, all at once.
A24 action/comedy/drama.
It's really original. It's really funny. And it has all the A24isms you didn't know you wanted.
Somehow they came up with a film that will give Dr. Strange a run for the real "multiverse of madness".
It's a lot to take in, but what a great movie.

Disney+ has Prometheus in UHD 4K. Visually very good and making me appreciate the movie more so than before.

Have you not seen Alien or Aliens? If not, watch them first. Primarily because they are far far better movies(definitely top 50 movies of all time), but also because you will be wondering a lot throguh Prometheus about what is going on. Those 2 would provide a good basis of knowledge. They are old, but hold up very well. Alien is pure sci-fi space horror, Aliens is more action. Both have great universe building.
If you watch Alien 3, their is a version called the Assembly Cut, which is the one to watch. The theatrical is not nearly as good. I'm not sure I can recommend any of the others if you aren't super interested.

And after watching all the Aliens skip Prometheus as it is horrible and will compare even worse if you have just watched Aliens 1 and 2

Lol...I knew someone was going to go here.
Look....I liked Prometheus, largely because I could listen to Idris Elba read the phone book, but in all of the Alien Saga's various iterations this one wasnt great, but not nearly the worst.

Yeah I thought Prometheus was fine. I liked it more than Alien³ and Alien Resurrection.

Prometheus is a standout for me and by far my favorite, that being said I never cared that much for the Alien movies. But when I saw Prometheus in the theater it just hit me in the right way, loved the story of Weyland financing the trip and using the star map to meet the "engineers" face to face and ask where we came from and how we came to be. Incredible, loved it. Saw it twice in the theaters and have watched the BluRay multiple times since.
Covenant was alright, I liked it just because it continued on from Prometheus.

Easter is a good time to watch Prometheus considering it’s about Jesus and humanity’s sinful nature. Who would have known the whole Xenomorph franchise exists because we crucified Christ?
I may watch that back to back with Passion of the Christ tonight. The most unlikely of unofficial sequels.
