As an aside, it will be interesting to see where Trek goes from here. Section 31 is kind of like the 'official' end of Discovery, Picard is done, Lower Decks is done. Now we just have Strange New Worlds Season 3 sometime this year and the Starfleet Academy show TBA. After quite a few years of Paramount / CBS going hard on the shows it seems they're cooling off a bit.
I feel like once 31 inevitably flops, we will unfortunately see the franchise hit the shelf for a little while. I hope SNW can survive but it may get anchored down.
Then, we'll get a reboot in 4-5 years. With whatever the du jour hotshot director for sci fi is. Villeneuve would be a dream but I think he's too artsy to take on trek.
To keep going with Discovery as long as they did was just a baffling decision. Real Principal Skinner energy: "Are we out of touch? No, the fans of the series must be wrong!"
Haha wow- hadn't looked at the Sec 31 description yet, but I see Kurtzman has elected to also air the first media explicitly set in the "lost era". So, ####ting on some of the last unfertilized territory in star trek canon as well.
I finally watched the finale of lower decks. What a great wrap up to a great series. And more, I think Mike McMahon delivered the ultimate coupe de grace for the fans; showing the discovery klingons as potentially an alternate reality to mainline star trek continuity allows one to dismiss all of discovery as such...

This is the other thing. Fast-Forward 20 years and, for argument's sake there is a 'Lower Decks: The Next Generation' or whatever...
How many Easter Eggs or references do you think would be about Discovery? Nobody liked that show. It doesnt have any of the charm or love that Star Trek usually engenders.
The only reason its even 'Star Trek' at all is because of the title card. Beyond that? It is Generic Dumb Space Fantasy.
