we have 20 years of locals we employed to keep that mission going, translators, embassy staff, drivers even cleaners and the like, not to mention locals we have compromised by giving them scholarships and encouraging them to set up schools, health clinics in Canada's name etc

This is what it’s come to. This is how desperate we are.

We would respectfully ask that you kindly refrain from engaging in your usual terrorist atrocities. Yours very truly, Canada.

PS and if you do determine that beheadings are in order, perhaps avoid the video.

Yes, we just lost the war, the consequence of that is we have to plead for the lives of those we persuaded to help us because we assumed the Yanks were trustworthy and would have some morality and or balls.

We were wrong the Yanks are, as always, cowards who start #### then cut and run, lets try to remember this next time they want help to invade some other brown country.

Is being in Afghanistan for an entire generation “cutting and running?”

If anything, I would say the Americans are too brave and should know when to cut their losses.

they lost 2300 men, the Afghan's were doing the fighting, not the Americans, the Afghans have lost 60,000

Yes when you decide to start a war and then piss off leaving the poor schmoes you set up to do your dying for you to the tender mercies of the Taliban that's cutting and running

How long do you stay there then? Forever?

They were going to leave eventually, and it was going to be really messy when they did. We're in that timeline right now.

The issue is why Canada ignored for weeks, no months, the desperate pleas of the interpreters to get them and their families out.

The entire Immigration Department, from the Minister to the most junior decision making civil servant needs to be fired.

when it is costing you nothing but money, and you started the war, then yes you 'stay' forever, Christ all they were doing is offering air support

As Colin Powell put it 'you broke it, you own it'

Of this is true, anyone outside of the airport is now at the tender mercies of the Taliban.

Nope, they were never going to stay forever. Even a small amount of troops there 20 years later and the country had no appetite to be there any longer.

This is exactly what Biden is saying, no way to leave without chaos. This is total nonsense, get civilians out then wind down the troops. Take whatever military hardware you can and leave. I can't imagine the entire fiasco being done worse, thousand are going to die that was not inevitable.

As for "staying forever" the United States has troops all over the world they could have maintained the same number that has been in Afghanistan for the last 2 years, which wasn't that many. I am 100% against these interventionist ventures but that ship has sailed can't just pull up pegs and get out cold turkey.

I realise the US is a morally bankrupt nation who have no more intention of keeping their word than a deadbeat dad onto their 4th pregnant girlfriend, that isnt my argument

You're leaving a country and basically handing the keys over to a terrorist group and you don't think there would be chaos? That's impossible.

You're actually saying people being unable to simply get to the airport they are told to go to, was the inevitable outcome? What a crock of ####.

The USA was supposed to be out in May. Public knowledge.

Why have people waited so long to leave?

Sounds like when Canada told citizens to return to Canada when Covid first hit. So many ignored this, then panicked.

I am not taking a side here. It just seems odd to be caught off guard that the USA is pulling out.

Was this not common knowledge?

I have not followed the whole story so forgive my ignorance.

Yet everything I read in the media is this was the plan months ago. Why didn’t the people leave?
