That is someone the type of deal I could see the Flames making that protects Gio. Not a straight up futures trade but a hockey deal that has a condition that Gio is protected.

I'll entrain the idea.
Is there any chance the Flames could get the 2nd overall from Seattle?
I'm sure they won't have a shortage of picks and prospects from these side deals, and they are going to have a presumably competitive team.
Kings ransom or what ever Calgary was willing to trade for Eichel. I'd do it.

This was one of the first things I googled:
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...l-draft-picks/
Looks like about a 20% chance that a mid-3rd plays more than 100 games, and a 15% chance a mid-3rd plays more than 200 games.

Is that spike down at 15 predominately caused by the Flames?

I just have a horrible feeling that if we lose Kylington we are going to regret it badly. To me we have treated him quite poorly considering he played half a season for us several years ago and people were not demanding him to be dropped. I fully expect him to become a good player on another team and will be another one that Calgary fails with.

Maybe Kylington would benefit by seeing what happened to Bennett.
Sticking around too long with an organization that doesn’t have a plan for you is not in your interest

So knowing that the Flames are going to try and compete next year you think we should pay a king's ransom for the 2nd overall pick in the most unknown draft in decades? Jesus.

Yes but there is 1% of that happening. You don’t see a Bennett situation everyday. More than likely, he is just no good

Kypreos on NHL Network Radio just now
"Giordano has been told if he is picked up by Seattle he will be the captain there"
No idea how he would know that, but there you go.

Well what does that guy know, he said Weber had a career threatening injury a year ago and we know how that turned out.

I also like the idea of that cap space in theory. But if they blow that on Hyman on a 6-7 year deal, I'm not so sure anymore ...

oh god this is so bad. You want to trade monahan for one more year of gio (who at best is a #4 dman) and eberle? AND you want us to give up a 3rd on top to make it happen? In what world does this make sense for us especially when you consider this team is at best a bubble playoff team? If we are trading Monahan, we should be getting significantly more and should help the team long term

Makes sense, an expansion team will require a strong captain.
My guess the insider heard this from the agent.
Who knows

Just struck me as an odd thing to say. "If we pick you, you'll be our captain."
If you like the guy enough to be your captain, why would you be waffling on taking him? Of course you'll take him.
Its a solid guess by Kypreos but sounded like he was making up a dialogue that didn't happen.

My guess they are being careful until the draft occurs.
My guess the players will know ahead of time if they are selected
