Another stick to the groin via the stars. This time Pavelski. He and Benn must practice that.

Vegas had the easiest first 2 rounds in NHL history IMO

12th seed and then what would have probably been a 7-10 seed

Dallas was their first real test

That’s when you hate the delay of game penalty. It’s the rule so can’t argue. But a guy is swinging madly at the puck in a puck battle with no intent to clear it out... he could try that 20 times and not do it again. I get the rule - but factoring intent would be nice. I guess that’s a slippery slope.
And of course ***tbag Perry scores.
EDIT: sorry thought Perry scored

The year is 2020, and Blake Comeau and Correy Perry are on the ice when Dallas scores the series winning goal sending them to the Stanley Cup finals. I can't believe it.

If someone told me that at the beginning of this season or in January, I would have said they're insane.

That's pretty much what Edmonton is.

Good for Khoudobin who may never see a chance like this again. But too many other dirt bags on Dallas who deserve to taste the bitter defeat of a Stanley Cup loss.

I have harped on it for years now but hope I live long enough to see a flames PP where they actually use off wing shooters for quick one timers, I sick of seeing the leagues top PP's year after year do this while the flames dance around looking for tips from the point and wrist shots, even if that bomb from Gurianov wasn't 110 mph it still goes in because Lehner has no clue it's coming.

They seemed to be using that offwing shot more during the playoffs fwiw

After Fleury lost the first game with a .960 save percentage Lehner followed it up with

1.00
.870
.900
.885

After his shutout, Lehner's numbers were pretty bad. Not sure why they never went back with Fleury?

As a whole, the Vegas team isn't very good. They skate, but can't hit the broad side of a barn door. All they seem to have are Stone and Theodore.

Vegas is a franchise in an interesting bind. They tilt the ice in terms of possession, but don't have the finish to take advantage of those stellar possession numbers.

The answer would seem to be to sign/trade for a bona fide sniper with finish. But, that would adversely affect their possession game.

Classic Catch#22.

I wonder if they shop Marchessault next season? He had a rather weak season and was basically non existent during the playoffs. I wonder what was wrong with him? I think that his performance is a big part of why they couldn't beat Dallas.

Vegas will start trending downward now. I don’t believe Lehner is a step up from Fleury. Players like Stashny, Pacioretty, and others are starting to decline and are capped out.

In retrospect it as a bad decision to fire Gallant, Deboer had nothing here.

This is where pure save percentage can be misleading - Lehner didn't allow more than 3 goals in any game this series. Vegas lost games 1-0, 3-2 OT, 2-1, 3-2 O.

Lehner could have been better but even last night I don't think there was a goal that could be considered soft - A rocket on the PP, and two greasy goals in the paint.

Maybe Dallas didn't take a lot of shots in the series but they were able to get to the dirty areas and convert on those chances in dirty areas.

High Danger GF: 5
Low Danger GA: 4

Medium Danger GF: 3
Medium Danger GA: 1

Low Danger Goals For: 1
Low Danger Goals Against: 3

And really this Dallas team up front is built for that type of hockey. Benn, Perry, Pavelski, Radulov are all great in tight in front of the net and at getting those tips/rebounds.

I disagree with Lehner (I didn't watch the last two periods last night), but definitely agree with the above.

The Stars have snipers, whereas Vegas do not. And to think they did this without offensive contributions from Seguin. If Seguin can ever get going, will definitely help the Stars in the Final.

Is that gigantic medal he's holding their equivalent of the hard hat the Flames used to have?

It would fit well with the sort of warrior culture they seem to have consciously built into other parts of their team culture, like their goal music. They have a 300 sort of vibe going on, as though they imagine themselves kicking their opponents into bottomless pits while shouting "This is Dallas!". Kind of silly, but also very effective in bringing teams of guys together to dominate others.
