I hope they press charges on those who's threats were great enough to force the cancellation of this event. People need to be held to account for violent threats online.

It's pretty dumb that they had to cancel the whole thing.

That's an unfortunate precedent to set... The sorts of people who would participate in that petition probably shouldn't be given the impression that they have any direct influence over civic politics.

It's pretty vague
Are the security concerns related to the unfounded fears that pedos will come or from idiots opposed to the event making threats?
If it's the idiots it will be ironic that the people trying to prevent children coming to harm posed a greater risk than the harm they were trying to prevent.
Well played social media.

I hope they go after the nude beaches all across the country next.
The naturist family resorts in Ontario. The monthly, all-age nude swims in Kelowna. The literal thousands of events that have taken place without incident in the past decades.
We need to think about the pedophiles, the same way the country was able to deal with the very real problem of satanists back in the 90s.

For anyone interested we have relocated. The new event will be held at 436 14 St NW. Please keep this quiet as people have tried to ruin this location in the past. There will be no pool but plenty of hot grease.

The reason for all of this ultimately stems from the group inviting the public. That's on them to try and make a 'splash'.

So...here's where I have a problem. A bunch of pearl-clutchers (and no, I'm not referring to the people on CP specifically) have now gotten this event shut down because they disagreed with it.
That's the problem here.

Did they have much choice after being 'outed' so publically though? Folks were going to show up one way or another, after that. Might as well try to invite them in and dispel some of the (obvious) myths and prejudices people hold against nudity

That's some mighty fine victim blaming.
So a group inviting outsiders is at fault if people who aren't affected at all complain?
Think of all the things we can get canceled if we follow the above logic and it will be organizations fault for inviting the public.
This is on 20,000 morons who don't understand how to assess risk.

So those that had hinted at lawsuits, I wonder if they will follow through with them.

Really? Lawsuits? On what grounds? Why?
This is a great day for the Compendium of Helen Lovejoys.

That's what was never clear to me, if they initiated the public display; or were outed and responded in due course. Kind of like an earlier poster said, it certainly felt like they were looking to raise their profile so to speak. If it was just a matter of the press 'catching wind' (and not an on purpose sort of thing), then that might speak to why the city guys tone is that we will continue to work with the group in the future

No, I think it's the nudist group that was pondering it.

The nudist group had said if it was cancelled there would likely be a lawsuit to follow and they had precedence or something.

From what I saw (and I admit I could be wrong), Crackmac's saw their FB event post and shared it, which 'blew the thing up', and they tried to make the best of it by 'opening' the event to the public.
