I’m often asked about the merits of milk and the multiple milk alternatives, as the assessments of dairy seems to take one of two positions: Either milk is the dietary equivalent of unicorn tears, a nearly perfect food, or it is poison that’s almost certainly killing us. What’s clear is that we have more choice than ever for milk-like beverages.
Whether milk is “good” or “bad” and how it compares to the alternative “milks” depends on the question being asked. Good for what?
On balance, from a strictly nutritional perspective, milk is probably neither good nor evil, especially when you consider it’s just one component of a diet. When consumed in moderation, there are almost certainly other factors, many controllable, that can have more significant effects on overall health (e.g., regular exercise, not smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight).

LOL, Apparently I'm a little kid because I enjoy milk from time to time.
Is juice okay? That seems pretty childish, at least as childish as milk anyway. Probably should drop that too. Dammit, I like a little OJ in the morning sometimes. I guess it's nothing but bourbon and coffee for this manly man from now on, I'd hate to go against weird societal rules that were just invented today.
I'm not understanding how milk alone could make someone fat though, that is legitimately confusing me. Maybe it's one of those things where buddy is a lazy, festering slob who never gets any exercise and eats fatty sugary crap all day and night? Nah, I'm sure it's just the milk.
I haven't bought milk in about 10 years. I do buy cheese though and the worst thing about Canada is "Supply Management" which is basically the Dairy cartel and protectionism at its worst.
It makes cheese significantly more expensive in Canada, reduces the availability of good imports, and encourages hugely wasteful practices in the industry (farmers pouring milk down drains).
"It restricts the supply of these products by controlling the amount produced domestically and limiting imports with high tariffs. The regulated and restricted domestic supply and lack of foreign product increases prices for the end consumer, estimated to be 38% to 300% higher retail prices than what is paid in most other countries for the same commodities"

One of the arguments that I've heard against the consumption of milk is that cow's milk is baby food for calves. In order to help calves grow, cow's milk is full of growth-boosting nutrients that developed adults do not need in large quantities.

Drinking juice and milk are basically drinking sugar. Glucose, fructose, and lactose. I stopped drinking these regularily years ago.
Great documentary (in the vein of super-size me).

It's all about moderation and regular exercise. I have managed to drink milk and juice my whole life and not turn into a Fatty McFatterson. Whenever I do plump out a bit, I find cutting beer out for a few weeks slims me down in a hurry. I wonder how many of those belittling milk/juice drinkers drink beer regularly? I honestly have never even considered cutting out milk and juice. I don't drink a ton of either though, so maybe that's the trick (maybe a glass every other day of each). Obviously you will get fat guzzling gallons of sugar every day.

There used to be a dairy farm up Centre St. across from the Circle 8 Speedway that sold milk if you brought your own container. Not the safest I guess but it tasted great.
Interesting discussion about milk. I have a latte or some sort of caffeinated beverage with steamed milk almost every day. I have a bit of milk in my coffee or tea.
Probably once or twice a week I'll destroy a tall glass of ice cold milk.
When I'm away travelling, it's the thing I crave the most. As soon as I get home, I pour myself a tall glass of milk immediately.
