That's insane, and say what you will, but i think the new "throwback" logo has something to do with it. Reminds people of "their" Jays.
I think the new and well "old" logo and color scheme beautiful and it's certainly made a spike in the merchandise for the team with the new hats and jersey's but the Toronto Star just ran an article about how popular in Toronto, the Jays are getting amount Toronto youth. The Bluejays represent a chance for the entire country to cheer for a team, in a country that is at it's highest coverage of the other leagues outside of the NHL. There's very much a hipster vibe, not ######bag by any means, to be a Jays fan right now.
The winter tour is unbelievable marketing. The Jays are very active in social media and genuine, with actual interaction on twitter. Lawrie being Canada doesn't hurt and people realize this could be a very good team. It's the perfect storm right now for the Jays, but what's most promising to me, is how much the youth of Canada is starting to gravitate towards them.
That being said, it's 6 games into the season and everything is roses. The best marketing tool, continues to be winning.

Most definitely. I hope that those Leafs fans chanting "Let's Go Blue Jays!" at the ACC do their part and support an up and coming team like the Jays. If more people start to flock down at the Skydome, then we'll have greater chance that Rogers actually live up to their promise and spend more money for this team. Everytime I look at it, there's no doubt in my mind that AA was really inspired by the Texas Rangers model. I sure hope that we will be the "Texas Rangers" of the AL EAST soon (great farm team, great everyday roster, and most importantly, a deep wallet to keep the team competitive on an annual basis).
I have to say, I am loving the young pitchers this season so far. Carreno, Alvarez, and Drabek all look experienced beyond their years and all had quality starts.
It makes Cecil's disappointing Spring Trainer that much easier to forget.

That's spot on for how it is for me. I love their look now. When I watched the home opener the other day with the jerseys and the packed house it really took me back to when I was a kid watching the team in the World Series years.
I really like this trend in pro sports where it seems teams who made numerous jersey switches finally go back to their original classic look. Next I wanna see the Flames 80s style white jersey make a comeback and move the alternate vintage to primary and the current red to alternate.
Ya, the Jays have done an excellent job at the branding of the club - and like someone above said, it is truly a perfect storm. The club is looking like it is trending in the right direction in terms of on-field ability, the new/old look - and I think best of all, the fact that there really isn't a lot to follow from April to October in Canada.
Vancouver and Ottawa being the only playoff teams left in the NHL, should help sway the attention of the everyday sports fan towards the ball club. I think a lot of the following really does stem from the "vibe" that is following this club - the great spring training record, the new uniforms, Canada's only baseball club. I know even just in my office, there are three non-baseball fans that had tuned into yesterday's game on XM radio. It's good to see, really is - makes me excited, because now I can talk baseball and people actually care to hear what's going on with the club.

I think the bandwagon is making the rounds across Canada and it is only going to get more full.
Here are the top ratings for last years games: We already have passed last years record and have two games above last years second best (second Indians game was in the 800K's)
Friday, April 1 – Minnesota @ Toronto (976,000)
Friday, Sept. 2 – Toronto @ New York Yankees (742,000)
Saturday, Aug. 6 – Toronto @ Baltimore (730,000)
Sunday, April 3 – Minnesota @ Toronto (729,000)
Monday, May 16 – Toronto @ Detroit (723,000)
I know a number of you guys have mentioned that you already read the Drunk Jays Fans blog, but I'm going to link to it here anyway because I really enjoyed the read on this particular article.
The article takes on a different point of view then most articles I read about prospects in that it is looking at potential negatives of the players. It really ends up being a pretty positive review for these guys since it is pretty tough to find any negatives about them. We have some very high-ceiling guys only 2-3 years away from making their debut in the bigs.
It's stupid, but I'm going to be very upset if they get rid of JP.
I know D'Arnaud is the up and coming hotshot, but JP has all the makings of a real team leader and I think it will be a mistake to lose him.
I really like JPA too, but he has a lot of improving to do still. I'm not sure exactly how this situation will be handled, but maybe he can spend some time at 1st or DH if D'Arnaud proves to be the better catcher. You're right though, his leadership qualities are pretty rare for a guy so young.
More often then not these situations tend to play themselves out naturally, as it is pretty rare for 2 young guys to both reach the potential that we hope they can. Hopefully we are having this problem in a year or two from now.

I like JPA as much as anyone but you have to eventually start weighing good guy/talent. As much as JP is great to have in the room, he's not holding this team together by any means. This team has a strong core and strong leaders, and it's going to continue to develop. And I bought an Arencibia Jersey this fall even knowing there's a good chance he's not going to be with this team long term, but I like his attitude that much and the way he plays the game.
And it's a disservice to just paint D'Arnaud as the up and coming hotshot. The kid has a great attitude, works hard, and is the Jays best prospect. It would be a mistake to not play Travis D'Arnaud because JP is a nice guy. Competition is great though, I have no problem with him as our catcher now, hopefully his AB's can improve this season and the catching position can just be one of the many positions the Jays are going to have some really tough decisions to make the next few seasons during the spring.

Yeah, I don't want to be Mr. negative on JPA, but the only way he's playing 1st base or DH is if he takes some really big steps offensively. In a perfect world I'd love to see him at DH with that type of power, but if he can't get on base and his numbers continue like this, it's not looking good.
For now though, I love how he's working with the staff and am very comfortable with him behind the plate. Let's just hope his K Rate gets to a normal level, it's a little alarming how bad it is right now.

Was going to post the same thing about JPA being a 1B/DH, not likely unless he improves.
I figure even if D'Arnaud comes up later this year, and then makes the squad next year, it is likely a time share at C until at least 2014, then the Jays can explore what they can get for one or the other. If they are both capable and hitting well, maybe you have a situation in 2014 and beyond where one catches, and the other plays some DH/1B, but they would have to be able to hold their own in one of their slots.
However, even if the "back-up" isn't good enough to hit at 1B/DH, in all liklihood the Jays still have an asset that could start for other teams at C so the trade value should be there.

Agreed, he would have to improve his bat significantly to be able to move to 1B or DH. Even then, his value as a power hitter is much greater when he is a catcher then if he was playing a position where the minimum expectation is that he is a great power hitter.
Having two quality catchers will be a fantastic problem to have if both players pan out the way we hope.
