i've been wanting to see a gritty alien invasion war since i was a kid. i don't want some invulnerable force field around the aliens that requires some special hacking, or them dying because of some bacteria. i just want a good ol' fashioned slugfest where our bullets actually have some effect. i want to see some results of humans killing each other for thousands of years, if there's one thing we're good at it's war
hopefully this movie can pull it off

Good news for you. The movie is exactly as you are hoping it would be. The director said this is suppose to be like shot in similar style to Black Hawk Down.

Wow, took me forever to find this thread. Turns out there's a lot of threads with thr words "battle" and "los angeles" in it. Who knew??
Anyways.....anyone else getting pumped for this?? There's been a lot more previews lately. After watching pretty much only Oscar stuff lately, it will be nice to see some aliens blow crap up.
No reviews on rotten tomatoes yet. I'm going to a media screening on Wednesday morning, I'm pumped!!
Love these kinds of movies.

The more I watch the trailers, the more I think this is going to be a terrible movie. I really want it to be great. I love nothing more than humans beating the ####e out of other worldly creatures, but I think it will suck balls.

My standing in line for Independence Day for 4 hours when it first came out and then watching Will Smith punch an alien in the face and scream "WELCOME TO EARF" has left me permanently jaded.
I really hope this is a wicked invasion movie, but I'm going in with low expectations.

Yeah but that's one of the problems I have with these films. So these aliens have mastered anti-gravity, laser weapons that pack the punch of a nuke, and presumably faster than light speeds - and we somehow defeat them with bullets and an M-16? An M2 .50 cal is going to bring down a hovering spaceship?
So inevitably I turn off the realism-o-meter to enjoy it, but it'd be cool to see a decent premise that deals with this. Something not involving computer viruses.

If the aliens were smart the first thing they should do is attack the Apple manufacturing plants so that the humans can't get their hands on a MacBook.
My real hope is that the aliens win in the end but this movie doesn't look to be that dark.
Also, notice how all the trailers have no dialogue...so I'm guessing the dialogue is going to be really bad. Throw in a love interest and a child actor and this movie is doomed.

It's pretty strange that the aliens in Independence Day used Windows 95.
I wonder if Michelle Rodriguez will play a tough, take-no-crap girl with a chip on her shoulder. She's never played that role, so it should help diversify her acting portfolio.

Meh I thought transformers 2 was a great action/sci-fi flick. Turn off your brain for 2 hours and watch robots battle. Spiderman 3 was painful to watch and full of melo-drama.
