Would have been better to see someone put Macca out of his - or is it our (collective) misery.

I know it's a day late (I think) I've been listening to Double Fantasy this morning to commemorate. Great album, as long as you skip every second song.
Double fantasy is a great album, well half of it, like you say. That Tub-O-Lard robbed the world of some great music, which angers me to no end!

It was a dreary evening after a dreary work day in dreary Peace River when I was laying in bed in the dark, rolled over and turned on the radio and heard the news that John Lennon had been shot and died.

I remember as well where I was when I heard Elvis had died (a bright sunny day, my uncle's farm, on his lawn overlooking the Red Deer River), saw the first bulletin that the Challenger had blown up and read, on that new-fangled thing the internet, that Princess Diana had been in a car crash.

In other news, I'd never heard of Kurt Cobain and have no idea what I was doing that particular day.

Yep, just imagine (ha) all the great songs we're missing right now. There was more than a solid handful of songs on pretty much every album that are ingrained in my memory. Who knows how many more albums we could've enjoyed.

I will start off by saying that I was never really a fan of John Lennon, and I was never really a fan of the Beatles later stuff.

But I do remember the day that John Lennon was shot, I remember I was 13 and I remember that even my dad who was as anti hippy as anyone could get was pretty quiet about it.

It was only about 4 years ago that I stood at Strawberry Fields in Central Park and then wandered over the the Brownstone where he was shot it was a surreal experience.

When I first moved to NY, I did that exact same thing though on his anniversary. It wasn't a special number (23) but there were still quite a lot of people at Strawberry Fields that day.

Small anal correction, but Lennon was shot in front of The Dakota, which is not a brownstone. Brownstones are what the Cosby's live in.

I called everything a brownstone when I was there.

I do know that I wanted to get a picture of myself right in front and security wasn't exactly nice about that.

I was a toddler when this happened, but even I know what John Lennon meant as a cultural icon, an agent for positive change, and a quality role model.

I would argue that no celebrity since (and very few before) could influence the world the way he did.

You know, it's funny how different things are today. If one of the world's top celebs got shot today, they'd be forgotten a week later.

He is a paradox - in his personal life, he was a nasty and brutal.

Honestly Jim Morrison had a bigger impact on my life, mainly because Riders on the Storm was the first song that I remember hearing, and after that I was a Doors fan for life.

But Trout is right, if you remember him for his music John Lennon is going to live forever.

I think I'll have a peach floating in perfume in a man's hate for dinner tonight.

He definitely could be, but later in his life he relaxed a lot. He was a very angry person for a long time.

I'm sure you'd find that to be the case with a lot of famous people. Especially actors and musicians...they are both pretty narcissistic occupations, so inevitably those around them get hurt.

There's a reason why they say you should never meet your heroes.

The Beatles song I most associate with John Lennon is 'Day in the Life'.

"I read the news today, Oh boy"....Chills every time.
