There's no appetite for a referendum in Quebec. The PQ can't even get into power.
If they couldn't win in their hayday with Parizeau and Lucien, they have no chance now. We're looking at 30% OUI levels.

Let them go. Their women will still come dance for us and star in our pornographic films. No tangible loss + financial savings = great success!

I think if they did separate, it would be a complete mess, and could take years if not decades to settle. In the meantime it would be a lose lose situation for all concerned.
I feel a little more comfortable, knowing we finally have someone from outside of Quebec as Prime Minister, in the event separation started to heat up.
I've always had a hate for the huge amounts of money that has continually flowed from the rest of Canada into Quebec, over the last half century. We travelled through Quebec in the early 80's, and the difference in affluence between Quebec and the Maritimes was striking.

Stop talking about referendums Quebec. You had your chance in 1995. Even Parizeau know it was over after that. I think him taking a couple potshots at the voters, followed by his resignation, should be noted by anybody who thinks Quebec can still separate.

Yup that was the core, a short window to win it all.
It's all over now.

How would you stop them from using the CAD?
People use the US dollar all around the world, albeit maybe not officially.

Canada would have to give them permission to use the Canadian dollar as their standard currency.
People might use the U.S. dollar but they're subject to the exchange rate and the hope that their U.S. currency is accepted every where.

I believe it is or was the official currency of Paraguay. They could use the CAD - they would just have no say in financial/monetary policy, as that would be set by the BoC. Just like whoever uses the USD has to live with the Fed policy.

I could care less if they used the Canadian Dollar, mainly because the Bank of Quebec would have to buy them from the Bank of Canada anyway. It might make more sense for them to piggyback on the American Dollar instead.

Yeah, from what I understand this is pretty much the case - there have been a few stories stating that its not only dropped off significantly for the above age group, but all groups overall.

If they seperated they would have to change the name of their beloved hockey franchise in Montreal as well.

I know in El Salvador they got rid of the Colon and now only use USD. Panama also only uses USD. Here in Costa Rica, when making larger purchases (cars, appliances, building materials, rent...) we use USD.
