Throttle cables have been sticking for a long time and it is not unusual for people to get confused and push the wrong pedal, it's been happening for 100 years, morso then than now.

This whole "Toyota" thing has gotten allot of press, but people have been slamming into stationary objects & parking inside buildings since I can remember.

This is the same as the early 80's, exactly the same. Every car was tested back then because they were all doing it... riiight.

People panic and push down on the wrong pedal, it happens.

Statistically your probably more likely to be struck by lightning twice in a week than have your car take off on it's own. Consider how many safe throttle responses a day in the world compared to the "supposed" car at fault, acceleration crashes.

Remember that CHP cop that killed his whole family, he was talking to 911 instead of shutting down the car or putting it in neutral ??? Panic

Spell it out for me, how is it not the driver's fault ? Why blame the cars all the time ? How many 96 Camrys run away, no more than any other car.

Just like people blaming the roads, is it the roads fault, or is it the driver's fault ?

Ya, I can't figure out why they wouldn't just turn the ignition off and put in neutral.

From the OP quoted article

Quote:
Lee was driving a 1996 Camry at the time of the crash. His car wasn't part of the recall.
The other part you highlighted was my opinion, and it still is.

Fair enough, I guess an uneducated opinion is still an opinion.

Gearing down saves your brakes significantly and also saves on gas. If shifted properly there is no additional transmission wear. The only time neutral should ever be used is going less than ~10 km/h.

Thanks to all for your informative posts on the matter. I've been driving that way for a long time ... it may take a while to break that habit but I will try.
