Edit: I agree a true park flyer is highly unlikely to injure someone. There are plenty though, of higher performance foamies that could operate at a park that could definitely cause harm. Some of the ducted fan stuff really moves.

I'm still curious as to which bylaw prohibits R/C planes within the city? (Not arguing with you, but I can't find anything).

The only bylaws I could find were:

-No Model Aircraft on "Streets"

-No Internal Combustion Model Aircraft operated between 10pm and 7am. (Sound Bylaw); (Which would indicate they must be allowed at some point)

best model rocket story I have:

My older brother used to have a few back in teh early 80's. He was a little lacking in the common sense department at times. He decided a good way to get rid of a spent model rocket engine would be to toss it in the fireplace. Then it gets fun...

Dad is taking a nap in his easy chair nearby. The spent rocket catches fire and proceeds to launch out of the fireplace, takes a lap or two around the room and sets the curtains on fire. Anyone who's ever launched one knows how loud they are, just imagine how loud that would be indoors. I heard my Dad scream and I was outside. I think that was the end of my brother's short stint in the model rocket hobby.

I used to launch them from South Glenmore Park. No one ever gave me a hard time, but that was probably 10 years ago.

Ultimately, I think the most important thing is to operate the models as responsibly and safely as possible. Even if that means packing it up if you get mobbed by little kids.

Model rockets are pretty cool, make sure to buy two kits. The second kit is so you don't make the mistakes that took place during the first kit. You can relaunch the second rocket a bunch of times as well (lots of people mess up their first rocket on the first launch for assorted reasons). If you go out with the rocket club, you will learn a lot about safety, which is vital during the launch phase.
I have some friends that were past rocket club presidents, they would come out and launch twelve foot rockets with massive engines.

I love that By-Law.

"No Person shall disobey a sign posted in a Park."

1. Post signs in park
2. ???
3. Profit (or enjoy!)

Somebody should have failed legal writing!
