I suggest getting a tent that has a vestibule instead that you can put some chairs in. That way you can keep the sleeping area a decent size for warmth but also have what your looking for.
I have this tent
http://outbound.ca/6-person+/longhouse-6.html And it has enough room for me to have 2 chairs and a 3 coolers in the vestibule. It is also extremely weather resistant. Case in point this weekend i was at livingstone falls with 50km winds and hail/snow. The tent did not get a drop of water inside and the tent had very minimal flex even in high winds. These tents are rather affordable as well. Pm me and I can tell you were to find them in Calgary.
I strongly suggest staying away from any tents that have a mesh top, even tho they will come with a fly to cover the top they will lose heat rapidly and are only good choices if you only camp in july.
