Actually the United States is stupid in that they make you pick up your baggage and go through customs even if Denver (in this case) is not your final destination. I remember on my last trip to the Middle East, our first stop was a 4 hour stop at Minneapolis airport before we got to Amsterdam. They made us pick up our bags, go through customs, legally enter the United States then drop our bags off about 20 meters away. It's really backward actually.

^ Pretty sure you pre-clear Customs at YYC.

Last year I flew from Tulsa to Denver, Denver to Kalispell on United. My flight came into Denver in one concourse and out on a different concourse. All United. Good luck!

The seats were small.

Expect your luggage to not get transferred. I've flow through there 4 times in 2+ years and any flights that doesn't have at least an hour between them means my luggage stays in Denver 'till the next flight.

We have flown many times to other countries through USA and have checked our bags all the way through the final destination.

A few years ago I was flying back to Calgary from Denver.

I arrived three hours early, got through security and waited for my flight.

Right before I was supposed to board the plane I was called to the desk...

THEY BUMPED ME OFF MY FLIGHT and gave me some bs story about the plane being "too heavy" and I ended up waiting 8 hours in that airport before I could get on a flight home.

One of the business class passengers told me that they always overbook the flights and because I had only a carry on, and did not check any baggage, thats why I was chosen to be bumped.

Apparently, there is a rule in the US that you must go on the flight if your bags are on board the aircraft.

So, check at least one bag, even an empty one so that they don't screw you.

I didn't think they would do that - good to know!

More like they are incapable of making it happen...

My latest, I had a 50-minute gap and the planes were NEXT to each other, and the luggage still didn't come.

I need to suck up to the company travel coordinator.

If in fact the connection ends up being just 20 minutes I would say it's a 99.99% probability you will be arriving in Vegas without your luggage.

But you probably saved $20 taking these flights instead of just going direct, right? I hope it is worth it. Or maybe taking advantage of some of those aeroplan points.

And anytime we don't have the passenger on board (in Canada or US) we have to take checked baggage off, even if it has already been loaded. I have a hard time believing that would be the reason for bumping someone without checked baggage, but you never know with some of the lesser US operators.
