Just over 3000 announced in attendance. Probably would have had another 2000 if not for the Canucks playoff game tonight. The Heat have to be absolutely pissed at whoever was responsible for scheduling this playoff series....

Really sucks they laid such an egg in front of a good crowd. A series win in the first year would be huge for the future.

First, I hate all of the Canucks fans that sat around me at this game (They were season ticket holders). They all had their Heat jerseys on and were cheering the loudest when the Heat scored. But once the Heat began to get scored on, they were all "I'm not really a Heat fan per se, I'd rather listen to the Moose games..." and I was all "Yeah, that's why you bought a $140 Heat jersey right and $650 season ticket right?" They spent more time bashing the Heat calling them "soft", "terrible", "weak", "flimsy", etc. and they spent more time on their Blackberries following the Canucks game.

Secondly, as far as the game went. The Heat were strong in the first period. I am extremely impressed with the Heat's new guys Rheault and Spurgeon. Spurgeon was blocking shots like crazy. Rheault is a madman on the ice. Take Nystrom during the playoffs and mate him with the Tazmanian Devil and you've got Jon Rheault haha. He's everywhere at once, I really like this guy. Also, Pelech was solid with checking and didn't make any mistakes checking people, but he wasn't that great defensibly. He fumbled the puck a lot at the most inopportune times. Sutter was awesome, but Backlund tried to play more of a tough guy role than being a scorer. Kind of pissed me off seeing him flip peoples helmets off and drop the gloves.

Thirdly, the goals against should have been way way way more than what they were. For every goal Rochester scored, they should have had 3 others that they missed. They were missing empty nets and easy rebounds. The goaltending was brutal too, which is obvious telling from the score.

My aunt is good friends with David Shantz's first cousin, and she offered to see if I wanted to meet him after last night's game, but I told her no because he probably wouldn't be in the mood after the game he had haha.

I did not see D. Sutter there last night.

Backlund was great, scored a nice PP goal and created the two goals that Sutter scored. He also got into a mini tussle.

Wahl looked ok. He is really small, but he will need time in Abby next year to learn how to play with the big boys.

Pelech was absolutely awful, a brutal give away pass to Mattias that resulted in a goal

Irving is playing with no confidence, im thinking that demotion to ECHL didn't help

The building was just over half full.

Abbotsford loses game 4 and now down 3-1 in the series. Seems like goaltending is the difference in the last two games. Poor attendance of 2600 thanks to a Canucks game at the same time. Bad scheduling.

Just a guess but I think Darryl Sutter would be at the world under 18 championships taking place right now.

Logic would think so. Since he hates draft picks, and good young prospects he is probably watching the WHL playoffs looking for more grinders

It would be nice if they could come back in the series, but I think they just aren't that good of a team.

DVDG just scored to make it 3-1 for the heat to stave off elimination. Come one HEAT!

Too bad they didn't schedule these 3 home games for Abbotsford during the Canucks off days. Another bad attendance at around 2200. Really stupid to have all 3 home games on the same night the Canucks played.

They were probably assuming the Canucks would get swept...

I noticed that Brett Sutter was one of the Alternate Captains. Pretty good for a young guy....

one thing that i will note aside from the awful scheduling regarding the canucks is that the ahl always has pretty awful playoff attendance. since many of the markets rely heavily on season tickets and group oriented theme nights, the playoffs make it harder to get folks there. you can't schedule a 'college night' months in advance and promote it to get the extra 500-1000 fans like the regular season. i was always stunned when looking at the playoffs the last 2 years to see how bad the crowds would be. right now the league attendance went from 5100 in the regular season to 3800 for the playoffs. i guess the excitement of making the playoffs doesn't seem to do much for the ahl cities.

Sutter and Backlund are also the scoring leaders for the Heat this playoffs. Good to see that being with the big club didn't kill their desire to win.

In the Heat market, at least, its inevitable. They cannot possibly hope to compete with the Canucks during the playoffs. Even if the Moose were in town it wouldn't work, people are absolutely Canucks crazy around here come the post season and very few people that I know will miss a game to watch. Its not a problem with the market, its just reality, how many Flames fans would skip watching them in a playoff game to see the farm team?

The schedule people in the AHL really dropped the ball when they set it up for every game to land on the same night as a Canuck playoff game.

Its too bad for us Abbotsford folk because the revenue would have been very good to offset the bills....
