I know this isn't an option for everyone, but if it were up to me, I'd nuke it from orbit. Start from scratch. It's the only way to be sure I know. I am paranoid like that. But it sounds like it was a fairly new setup anyways, so it probably wouldn't take you too long to do it.

That is the safe way, but personally I would rather know where the breakdown occurred, if it was at his end at all.

Before I got my new laptop I was forced to use the POS desktop in my temporary office. I used my email from that computer, is it possible that the password was gained from that computer a week ago? I'm pretty sure the firewall, anti-virus software was fairly out-of-date.

Assuming that the problem was a trojan/keylogger as others have suggested here, yea, it seems entirely possible it could be a problem with the office machine and not your new laptop. In fact, any machine that you might have used recently to access your email could have been the culprit.

Also, if it was a trojan/keylogger, are there any other signs that any of your other accounts might have been compromised? or were they just interested in your gmail?

Just the GMail so far...everything else has been changed. I have done all the recommended fixes, fingers crossed there is no reprecussions.

I find it odd that they changed the language settings, took me a quick Google search and 5 minutes to fix it. If it was me, I would have done nothing, and the "victim" would have been none the wiser.
